^ I've heard that version too. Either way - sounds pervy.
The pube thing - I heard it from a friend who says his dad told him he had heard that when Rumours had just come out. |

Ok, since I'm not a perv like the rest of you
Is it possible that Lindsey actually may have meant "tall grass"? Like grass? Like in a field? After all, it was the 70's, and they were hippies. I alway pictured them running through a field, holding hands, Stevie with her long, floral, flowy dress with a daisy in her hair. Lindsey with his long, dark, curly locks. Innocently laying down in the tall grass and making out? Isn't that possible? Thats what I always thought it was. You pervs ![]() |

^ Yes, of course that could be it. Or the other thing. Bitch.
![]() For the record, I didn't say I thought that was the meaning, I had just heard the rumour. |

I do have to admit, the first time I heard that song, back in '77, I thought, ohhhhh, that parts naughty

Ok, first of all, Skcin, thanks for clearing things out, as pervert as the rumour was.
I had never thought of that, (when you first said there was a a double meaning I thought it might mean something like:"let me lay down in a field and smoke some grass" or something )Either way, the "hippie" theory by Bikerchic rings more true to me. I never thought of LB as a "metaphor" sort of guy. |

I actually love this song nd I remember bouncing around to it during gym class. Our gym teacher used to play it while we did "aerobics." I'd rather not think of the tall grass as pubic hair. It should have been "short grass" in that case. I'm thinking it's the whole tall grass in a field having-nature-sex. Don't burst my bubble. ![]() |

This is one of my top picks from Rumours, if not the top. It's energetic, naughty (yeah, I went there) and I like the idea of someone thinking, "You know...screw it. I'm just singing the guitar part!"
I have a copy of Lindsey doing this song by himself on the radio and it's one of my most listened to tracks. It being the first on Rumours always said to me, "Lay down and hold on tight, I'm going to rock your world. The world's greatest lover is here." (Again with the naughty.) As an aside, this is not a song to do at karaoke. That's my cautionary tale. Learn from my mistakes.

Yeah. I love doing that, too - difference being I don't have a guitar, whereas LB does. I'm too busy being jealous you have that song at karaoke to possibly learn from anything.

To stray slightly off topic, my local karaoke joint that has a really good selection of FM songs - and Lindsey's songs. I don't think they have Go Insane, but they do have Soul Drifter and Countdown. I remain upset that they do not have Angel, but they do have Sugar Daddy. The selection takes a good third of the page...and it includes Second Hand News. The rest of the joints I've been to...Dreams and Rhiannon. For anyone in LA...the place is Boardwalk 11.

The "A" at the end, on "neeeeeews" CAN be hard to hit, especially if you're tired.
