Wild Heart cover inspiration

So, I've heard in the past that there is a Sulamith Wulfing painting that inspired the cover photograph of the Wild Heart LP. Also, that there is symbolism behind the 3 images of Stevie on the cover (past, present, future).



Does any of this sound even vaguely familiar to anyone else, or am I just reading WAY too much into it?

A friend of mine asked me if I knew any "story" behind the photo and ever since then I've been trying to remember where I heard all of this. I'd love to hear any opinions or if you have any actual info that'd be great!

You are correct. The cover was inspired by the Sulamith painting titled The Angel and The Child

I've heard that too, but it also represents the "maiden, woman and crone" motif. there's a painting that depicts this, but I can't remember the name or the artist.

I wanted to find out what the Maiden, Mother and Crone so I did a websearch and found this cover of a book. It looks a little like the Wild Heart cover, doesn't it?

I've heard something about one of the figures representing the ghost of Robin. I would guess it's the middle one but don't quote me on it!

I go with the Sulamith reference. I read it somewhere...and I have a calendar that actually has the three women (Maiden ,Mother, Crone) and ironically it is the Sept, 2006 page of my Sulamith calendar. I can't scan stuff so I don't know how to show it to you ...I'll try, somehow
