No big plans. I avoid these holiday weekends in general. It's total amateur hour re: vacations and trips. Like drinking on New Year's and St. Patrick's Day.
It is Helter Swelter in LA so I am mostly gonna be at the gym or in the pool.

I hear ya - I don't go to many things over holiday weekends either - the crowds bother me. And the big drinking holidays...drunk crowds bother me

I was going to Chico to see my boyfriend and go camping, so I could get a last smidge of hot weather summer swimmyness in. But I think we broke up. Ironically, he wanted to come here to get away from Chico and the heat there, whereas I wanted to get away from the coldness and citiness here.

So then, I was going to visit his sister, my best friend, who lives a block away from him. Which I usually did anyway on this holiday before I was dating guy. We were going to go swimming, drink, and do homework. But then i just decided to keep my money and stay home (if I paid to go up there, I wouldn't really have any money left).

I have a lot of incomprehensible statistics homework, some other homework, and some important paperwork. Plus, my friend is coming here next weekend anyways. I'm kinda sad I don't get to be hot and go swimming, instead I'll be chilly and may or may not shower - but overall I'm pleased with the decision. Maybe I can also get some cleaning done, I only have a month to do so before Paula comes here. There's also some kind of big music festival thingy in Oakland, maybe I'll head down to that?

Steve is such a sweet adorable dork. I always hated Big. Always. And still do.
Aidan....mmmmm. My favorite. After you see all of them, I would love to hear what you say. I heard an interview with MPK, the creator, where he explained the whole psychology of why they created that character and it was really interesting. But I can't say now, because you haven't seen all the episodes.

LOL - I've seen a few here and there - so I know about how Charlotte and Trey end up - I know MIranda has a baby - but the details are sketchy because I've only seen 1 or 2 eps.

I'm seriously in love though - and actually I had a crush on Skipper too..so I've adopted Miranda as my favorite.

Yeah - I'm very interested to see how all the Big stuff plays out - ooh I can't wait!!

Nothing, as far as I know. Oh, well it won't be much of a departure from what I did all summer. I'll probably end up spending time on here, and playing video games.

My friend has never been here so we'll also do some tourist type stuff. The weather is going to be perfect... sunny and 80 degrees all weekend. Woohoo!
You're so lucky! I'm supposed to go up north and the high for tomorrow is going to be 62. That friggin hurricane has ruined everything.

There is an absolutely AWESOME Celtic Festival going on in Nevada City/Grass Valley area being sponsored by one of my fave Community Radio Stations (KVMR). Lots and LOTS of Celtic stuff, music, crafts, mini-RenFair type costumes etc...here's the Link

The KVMR Celtic Festival & Marketplace offers two days of wonderful family entertainment and education, brings together people of all ages and backgrounds in a magical setting of music, dance, sports, history and culture. Highlights include:

* World-famous Celtic musicians

* Regional musicians, dancers, storytellers and pageantry performers

* Jams & workshops conducted by headliners

* Living history encampments

* Master falconers with their eagles, hawks, falcons & owls

* Scottish Games

* Kid’s Area

* Huge Marketplace

* Accessible to allT

Proceeds benefit KVMR community-based non-profit radio, based in Nevada City, broadcasting to the Sierra foothills, greater Sacramento region, Truckee and Tahoe.

Featured Performers:

Dougie MacLean

Audiences world-wide are still discovering this Scotsman’s meaningful songs, unique voice and enigmatic performances. His values are admired, his songs genuinely touch lives and his lyrics relate to modern dilemmas that are faced by all…his music is for thinking people of all ages. More...

The Alasdair Fraser Band
With cellist Natalie Haas, fiddler Hanneke Cassell and more.

Alasdair Fraser’s appearances at our Celtic Festival have coincided with record-setting attendances. A long-time favorite of KVMR listeners, his music can be heard on the station’s acoustic, folk, bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, new age and eclectic shows. His performance at the 2001 festival that occurred just a few days after 9/11 was exuberant, cathartic, hopeful and highly entertaining—all at the same time. Alasdair’s close connection to the KVMR community makes his appearance to help celebrate the festival’s 10th anniversary especially meaningful. More..

Celtic music purists, prepare yourselves to be shaken to your roots. This six-man band is credited being the originators of “acid-croft.” Five members are Scottish; the sixth is from Tasmania. Their self-described style is “hypno-folkadelic ambient trad.” The Irish Times said, “This is tradition standing on its head...doing cart wheels and pole vaulting over every barrier in sight.” More…

The Cottars

Rarely has a Celtic Festival audience embraced a band so quickly and thoroughly as it did The Cottars in 2005. Now a year older, and even tighter, the group is currently touring with The Chieftains. Chieftains’ founder Paddy Moloney said of The Cottars, “With their combination of incredible musicianship, amazing voices and wonderful dancing, what a future they have ahead of them!” More..

Molly's Revenge

Molly’s Revenge nearly set the stage on fire during their performance at last year’s KVMR Celtic Festival. The band’s boundless energy lit up the audience as well and nobody seemed to get enough of them. So, we’re bringing them back this year. Dust off your dancin’ shoes and get ready to move. More..

ALSO...

Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald with The Little Band
“… writing and singing some of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time by any artist on any size label.” Dirty Linen Magazine More..

Root Down One
Isaac James, Ethen Lewis and Hayes Burris perform Afro Celtic jazzy music with vision, verve and hope for a world community More…

Shawn Haussler & Saoirse
Bring your heart and soul when you travel with Shawn and her band through eons of Celtic music, made special by Shawn’s arrangements More…

The Celtoids
A new mix of our area’s Celtic music performers promises to delight festival audiences with their unique arrangements of favorite songs More…

Alas, its visitation weekend, I have to transport my son back and forth to Chico both days so he can visit his father. If anyone local goes, please tell me how it went ok?

I wanted to go up to Boston on either Saturday or Sunday but this weekend looks as if it will be a wash out so I guess that I am staying home. I can't be too upset because I did have great weather last Saturday for the lighthouse cruise that I went on. Maybe I will post some photos later. I really want to try to get to Block Island before September ends.

Labor Day is a made-up American holiday - yet another excuse to get people out of work for a day.

There is a better definition of what it is.

Ooh that sounds tempting, but I must resist. The Renaissance Faire in Hollister starts next weekend so I must save my funds for that.

On a side note, another belated birthday present was a new dagger, which makes 3 blades for my costume. My belt is going to weigh a ton this year.
