Tom Petty Vs The Scalpers

[Nicks Fan]

I found these articles and thought they were interesting. It makes me soo mad that there isn't strict laws to stop scalpers from doing this.

"Tom Petty and his fans are fighting back against scalpers who used the Petty fan club to score tickets to an upcoming show with Pearl Jam in St. Paul, Minn.

Fans complained last week that many tickets for June 26-27 shows at St. Paul’s Excel Energy Center, that were supposed to go to fan club members via a Web site pre-sale, later showed up on secondary market sites at prices several times face value.

With the help of Ticketmaster, promoter Jam, and site administrator Signatures Network, Petty's management identified and canceled some 600 tickets purchased at the tompetty.com pre-sale that were to be resold. The voided Petty/Pearl Jam tickets (no issues were reported regarding PJ’s pre-sale) will be offered once again to fan club members under more strict guidelines. Those who buy the tickets will have to show a photo ID to pick up the tickets on the night of the concert." [Billboard

TOM PETTY | Don't Scalp Around Here No More

Are you sick of seeing tickets go up on eBay or Craigslist mere minutes after a show instantly sells out? I can understand selling a ticket at a profit to a show you can't make for whatever reason, but its ridiculous how many people seem to buy tickets just to immediately scalp. You can call it smart business, I call it being an ahole

Well, Tom Petty fanclub members complained that they couldn't get a ticket during a fanclub only presale for his upcoming Madison Square Garden gig, but saw tickets being scalped on eBay and Craigslist within minutes of presale selling out. Well, Petty and his staff had enough of this horse-****.

Ticketmaster has now recalled some 800 presale tickets that they say landed in the hands of people who planned on reselling the tickets!!! For each show of Petty's upcoming tour, they put 1,500 premium seats onsale to fanclub members. These tickets, including the MSG tickets, were for the first 15 rows and the section immediately on the side of the stage.

Think of that for a second, out of 1,500 tickets, more than half of them went into the hands of scalpers. what's up with that yo?

This Wednesday at 10am, the 800 cancelled presale tickets will go onsale exclusively to fanclub members once again, except this time people will have to pick the tickets up at Will Call on the day of the show with ID and the credit card used to purchase the tickets.

This is awesome.

The best way to stop scalpers is by not buying their tickets; unfortunately, that will never happen.
