My question for you: What are some of your favorite bands? We seem to share a bit of the same musical taste.
Wow! apart from the musical taste, we seem to agree on the cities as well. Oslo, Norway would be my favorite place to live-forever !

Now, my favorite artists/bands.
Apart from Nick Cave and Neubauten, which you already know, I like PJ Harvey a lot, Massive Attack, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Placebo and the early Roxy Music stuff (totally irrelevant). I love the Waterboys and also, I probably have everything Leonard Cohen ever recorded
And FM of course !!!! (many people say they're completely irrelevant to the rest, but I don't care!)

I know what you mean, but my musical taste casts such a wide net, noone can figure it out anyway

I too like P.J. Harvey a lot. What is your favorite album? I'm really partial to Rid of Me and Songs From the City/Sea. Have you heard her collaborations with Marianne Faithful? I think they make a great team.

Golddustwoman77 - what do you teach? (subject and age range.)

Elie - what is rusk? and what part of Greece are you from?

No, I surely did not. Though I may have to soon, seeing as I have tons of free time all of the sudden.

I have a question for you, Jyqm. Who is your favorite poet, or, what is your favorite poem if you had to choose?

Yes, the entire question was based on something I misremembered: I did not recall that it was alpha lipoic, and I recently saw some article about hyaluronic acid, bought some, and wanted to know what you thought.

Glad to know you are feeling foxy.

My question is for jazmenflower:

Have you ever tried on a pair of authentic difabrizio platform boots exactly like stevie's?

my other question is for trackaghost:

Did you see fleetwood mac on the rumours tour in england/europe? if you did, what was the reception like?

Oh my. Hmm. I'm not sure I could pick just one poet. There are so many who are good in such different ways for such different reasons. Byron is definitely up there, not just for the content of his poetry but for his incredible mastery of form. Look at something like Don Juan, where he manages to write this incredibly long epic poem, hundreds and hundreds of pages, and all of it is in these Italian iambic pentameter octaves, abababcc, which ought to sound so sing-songy and stupid in English, abababcc, but he makes it work so brilliantly and tells this amazing story. To have that kind of mastery over the English language is just incredible to me. How does he do that?

My favorite poem of the past few months, though:

"Berryman"
W.S. Merwin

I will tell you what he told me
in the years just after the war
as we then called
the second world war

don't lose your arrogance yet he said
you can do that when you're older
lose it too soon and you may
merely replace it with vanity

just one time he suggested
changing the usual order
of the same words in a line of verse
why point out a thing twice

he suggested I pray to the Muse
get down on my knees and pray
right there in the corner and he
said he meant it literally

it was in the days before the beard
and the drink but he was deep
in tides of his own through which he sailed
chin sideways and head tilted like a tacking sloop

he was far older than the dates allowed for
much older than I was he was in his thirties
he snapped down his nose with an accent
I think he had affected in England

as for publishing he advised me
to paper my wall with rejection slips
his lips and the bones of his long fingers trembled
with the vehemence of his views about poetry

he said the great presence
that permitted everything and transmuted it
in poetry was passion
passion was genius and he praised movement and invention

I had hardly begun to read
I asked how can you ever be sure
that what you write is really
any good at all and he said you can't

you can't you can never be sure
you die without knowing
whether anything you wrote was any good
if you have to be sure don't write

Rusk: I 'm not sure it is actually called like that in english . It's like a slice of bread, but it is very hard. Like a very big crouton perhaps..Hope it makes sense.
I grew up and live in Athens. My parents come originally from Evia, a big island , east of -and very close- to Athens

I had forgotten to mention Marianne Faithfull on my list.I was completely fascinated by her when I was a bit younger. But I haven't heard her collaborations with PJ Harvey.. I should, though. I like Songs From the City/Sea a lot (or is it "stories"? My favorite was her duet with Thom Yorke of Radiohead). Have you seen her live?? She's amazing and she sounds just as great live as on album, at least that was my impression.

Cd's-Tie: Maxell (Made in Japan ONLY!!!) Available at Welfare-Mart, I mean Wally World & other retailers who dont suck as much ass as Wal-Mart

Samsung Pleomax CDR's, Available from musiciansfriend.com (25 pack spindle for about $7.99)

DVD's-Any brand (ie-Imation, Maxell, Memorex) except SONY & Fujifilm-Odd that SONY DVD's suck whenever I had to use 'em & Fujifilm's seem to freeze up in my burner whenever I finalize the disc into DVD-V mode.

Cant forget Dave "Boohoo" Mustaine's part...Damn dude, Get over it already, Megadeth still has a somewhat "street cred" that ME-Tallica has long since lost.

Thankfully from the recent reports of the album in progress is that Rick Rubin's has lit a fire under their arses and the new music is in a ol' "Ride the Lightning/Master of Puppets" style of metal...Maybe they can still show that they have some "nu-ticals" left in the tank for metal.

Spiderland is one of my favourite albums of all time!

They split up in 1994 but got back together last year and I saw them when they played London. They looked a lot older but sounded incredible. I really never thought I'd ever get to see them live. The closest I ever got before that was seeing The For Carnation (singer/guitarist Brian McMahan's band) a few years back.
Guitarist David Pajo's work as Papa M is pretty good too btw.

I think I would have been about two years old during the Rumours tour, so no I didn't get to see them then. But I did get to see Star Wars that year, although at just two years old I don't think I really appreciated it.

Thanks for asking! Yes, I have. And it really sucks. One of my best friends talked me into going on match, which is more like a meat market, but I have talked to some interesting people on there. I finally went and met one who seemed pretty normal. Actually, he was a really nice guy, but, I am pretty paranoid about certin things, and he didn't yet need to know my home phone number or my address. (he had my cell) Anyhow, he works for our local cable company, and he went and looked up my exact address, and went on to tell me that "oh! I know exactly where you live..." Well, that freaked me out, and after I kindly told him I didn't appreciate it, I havent' spoke to him since. I've been out a few times with others, some just once, and then, there was one I talked to for a little while. No one has really "done it" for me yet, though. And I'm really in no big hurry, either. I've gotten quite comfortable where I'm at.

Dammit! You weren't supposed to ask. OK, habitually, no. When I'm drinking, yes. It's not often, but when I do have a drink, I'm dying for a cigarette. I'll have 2 or 3, and then wake up the next morning regretting it because I stink and my lungs hurt. It will be 8 months on the 8th not doing it all the time, though.
