Default May 1: Happy Birthday TISL!

Everyone raise their tambourines for Trouble in Shangri-La, released in the States 5 years ago today.

5 years???!!! damn. I can remember going into Wally World to get this album while I was in college. it was the first album release of Stevie's since I had become a fan. I was a man on a mission that day. good times.

I remember going to the Tower Records by my house and standing in line with the Dave Matthews fans to buy the record after midnight.

I also remember listening to the title track and thinking how HUGE it was.

I do not play the CD very often anymore, but will this evening.

Can't believe it's been 5 years. While I don't think it's her masterpiece (sorry Stevie) it's probably my 3rd fave of her solo albums. And the title track can still give me chills.

A wonderful album, and a wonderful title track. I wrote a draft of a short story based around it ... just after my exams, but I never finished it. Ah, maybe tonight's the night I'll dig it out again.

In the meantime ...

any excuse for a party! Let's go crazy!!

Does anyone else remember TISL being the first album that VH1 did their special thing where you preorder the album and then can listen to it on the website before it's actually released? That was how I bought it. I don't think they still do that, in fact I think the idea didn't live too long at all. Ah, 2001...I really wish to go back to that year, for many, many reasons.

I sure do.

Here's the ad that ran afterward in Billboard, congratulating Stevie on the album's success....

Yes i love trouble in Shangri LA.... i remember telling the place had just started working at (that i left 4 weeks late) that i was going to get milk! Andi ran down to the cd store but it wasn't in yet! Then going back again later to pick it up and making the people check it wasn't still in the boxes... raced back to work and listenend to it! I was originally disappointed....

My Favourite song: Trouble in Shangri La!... hey that calls for a poll!!
