Well, that's iffy..."Skies The Limit" WAS a fairly popular VIDEO (on VH-1) as well as single. (I think "Save Me" was the better song, however).

True, but I was trying to think of something that actually has a slight chance of happening anytime in the near future.

True, true... but "Save Me" was popular on both VH1 and MTV (even making MTV's Top 20 Video Countdown). It also charted in the Top 40 on Billboard's charts, whereas "Skies" didn't chart at all.

Plus, like you, I just think that "Save Me" is the all-around better song.

As it is, I'm starting to lose hope that we'll even get 'Live,' 'Mirage' and 'Tango.' Which is a pity.
I'm constantly reading about albums from less-popular acts receiving the "expanded & remastered" treatment, so there's no excuse for ANY Mac album in Warner's catalog to go ignored... and, yet, here we are.

Well, since next year is the 40th anniversary, Rhino/WB Special Products may be gearing up for a big splash.

Man, do I hope you're right, buddy.
I'm a frugal person, but I'd definitely plunk down a hefty chunk of change for those suckers!

Oh yeah, there are tons of obscure and cult bands who do really wonderful jobs remixing/remastering/reissuing/expanding their catalogues. Look at the great Talking Heads Brick that came out last year. Look at the Rhino reissues of Elvis Costello's entire catalogue up to 1996. Even Dinosaur Jr. is remastering and expanding a bunch of their albums for reissue. When were any of these people ever as popular as the Rumours line-up of Fleetwood Mac? It's ridiculous, and utterly thoughtless on the part of everyone involved with the band.

That's why I can't stand it when some of these Fleetwood Mac fan apologists chime in whenever anybody suggests a good idea by saying, "Oh, well, you can't expect them to do that, nobody would buy it, it wouldn't make any money." It's total bull****. In this age of niche marketing, I'm sure there are people just dying to give Fleetwood Mac's catalogue an overhaul, or put out a DVD of their videos or some archival concert footage or something, anything! That Buckingham Nicks to this day has never been released on CD is utter stupidity. What is wrong with this band?

As always with this crew, I'll believe it when I see it on the shelves. Until then, I'm not holding my breath for a second.

Oh come on, you guys. Boy, when Macheads start talking about Mac, rationality goes flying out the window! I think there's a difference between a video that "charts" & a video that's genuinely popular. I don't think you could have asked 100 kids in 1990 whether they knew--let alone liked--the Save Me video & gotten a single affirmative reply. And that goes double for Skies the Limit. It's payola that put that video in the Top 20 anything on MTV/VH1, not popularity.

I doubt there'll be **** in the future. I think the white album, rumours & tusk reissues were the end of the line, as far as back catalog is concerned.

come to think of it, that was probably the end of the line as far as anything fleetwood mac 1975-2006 is concerned.

If you guys were judges, you'd probably give 75 parole hearings for a single criminal. you guys are always thinking, "let's give them one more chance"

so in that sense you are merciful & therefore you are closer to the Jesus of the Gospels than I am, & that is to be commended.

Did payola really effect MTV's playlist the way it did radio? The Top 20 Video Countdown (do they even still have that?) was supposed to be based on how many requests each song received from viewers. I've never read anything to suggest that payola was involved, but you've brought up a good point.

If payola was involved though, it sure didn't help "Whole Lotta Trouble" or "Skies The Limit," as far as MTV airplay is concerned!

"Skies" is better than "Do You Know," but it's not better than "Save Me." So there.

Come on now, Brian. "MTV basing their programming around corporate insider agreements rather than playing what people actually want to hear?" You're smarter than that.

Do answer your other question, though: VH1 still does a "Top 20 Video Countdown." Who knows hwat it's actually based on. Weekly focus groups and ClearChannel radio playlists, probably. MTV, meanwhile, switched from a weekly 20 Countdown to "Total Request Live" back in 1997, and that show was largely based on viewers' requests each day. I believe that show is still alive and kicking, though who knows if they even still show videos anymore.

Its interesting reading some of the opinions here. It's sorta the age old discussion of pre '75 VS post '75. Everyone has a legitimate opinion. My attitude is that it's important to pay respect to the former. One of the things in my opinion that makes Fleetwood Mac so good is their rich and varied history. Fascinating really.
