Memories of Stevie

[David]

Stevie Nicks . . . She was the first person that had ever sort of forced their way into my life. She insisted on meeting me. She came down to the studio saying she was a huge fan. Slowly, we became friends. You know, I always thought that she had an incredible voice, but I couldn't see how her music had anything to do with mine. But the moment we started singing together, it became clear.

"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" we cut for our album . . . for "Hard Promises." And it just didn't fit into the album. We finished the album & that song was just sorta forgotten, really. And then I got a phone call one day from Jimmy Iovine, & he said Stevie's gonna do the song.

I love her. Go for it, Stevie! Get what you want! Make Tom Petty meet you!
Her ambition is something I admire a lot, since I have hardly any.
Thanks, David.

More Tom Petty (Conversations with Tom Petty):

Now Stevie, there's a Cecil B. DeMille movie. This is a person that's larger than life in a hundred ways.
