Default Boston Tea Party as two LPs?

I was just discussing the Boston Tea Party CDs with a guy on another newsgroup, and he noted that if a live album had been culled from these sets and released in 1970 as originally planned, the result could have easily ranked with The Who's Live at Leeds and The Allman Brothers Band's Live at the Fillmore East as one of the greatest live rock albums of all time. I dare say he's got a point! But the hard part is this: How do you narrow down what we've got on the 3 Tea Party CDs into just two LPs worth of music?

Here's what I've come up with. Anybody else want to take a shot?

SIDE 1
Black Magic Woman (6:54) (from BTP1)
Jumping At Shadows (4:48) (from BTP1)
Like It This Way (4:34) (from BTP1)
Only You (5:07) (from BTP1)
I Can't Hold Out (6:35) (from BTP1)
TOTAL TIME: 26:58

SIDE 2
Rattlesnake Shake (26:00) (from BTP2)
TOTAL TIME: 26:00

SIDE 3
World In Harmony (4:12) (from BTP2)
Oh Well (3:15) (from BTP2)
Stranger Blues (3:57) (from BTP2)
Red Hot Mama (4:10) (from BTP2)
If You Let Me Love You (11:15) (from BTP3)
TOTAL TIME: 26:49

SIDE 4
Teenage Darling (4:16) (from BTP2)
Keep A-Knocking (5:14) (from BTP2)
Tutti Frutti (6:46) (from BTP3)
The Green Manalishi (11:40) (from BTP1)
TOTAL TIME: 27:56

...would've been called Cerulean. It was all set to be released, but then Peter Green quit, so it was shelved until about 1984 or so. (although it was well-bootlegged up until then)

Here it is: Fleetwood Mac-Cerulean (from the Penguin Discography)

And then there was also the release of Live in Boston or many other names (mine is just called "Live"), which had other tracks not included on Cerulean.

Right! So, it basically was a 3-LP set. The two LP Cerulean plus the Boston Live "bonus" LP.

Do you mean that "Cerulean" is taken from the supposed master for the shelved release, and reprents the tracks that would have been on it?

Question

I've heard some speculate that it was more likely "Live in Boston" that was the supposed finished album but who knows?

why did they call it "cerulean"? I once used the word "cerulean" in a poem.

I think they should have called it "azure."

Basically, because Peter Green quit the group. After "Then Play On," the plan was for the band to release a live album set, Peter would do a "solo" album (he'd still be backed by Fleetwood Mac), and Fleetwood Mac would do an album with just Jeremy and Danny fronting the band (with Peter making cameos). Then, the **** hit the fan.

From everything I read about it back in the early 80's, yes.

Interesting...Sadly the album wouldn't have included "Jumping at shadows", then. The
Boston version(s) is one of my top 5 favorite Peter Green recordings. Sandy Mary also,
such a cool song!

I agree - if I'd been choosing the tracks, I probably would have included most of the tracks from the single "Live In Boston" LP and deleted several from "Cerulean" (such as "The Green Manalishi", never a favorite of mine played live.....but then it was their most recent single at that point, so from a marketing standpoint I suppose it would have made sense to include it).

Exclude Green Manalishi from Cerulean? That is one of the most inspired guitar solos ever!

Bass guitar solos, that is.
On the oher hand, it's not just that part that really gets me. I'm always much touched by ther way the song is built up. It has some 'mystical' aura. Not just the chord progression, but the complete arrangement of laid back - furious - breaks at the right moment, the melody of the lyrics with the notes very close to another, etc. SHIVERING

i have to vote with dino and sf2k here.

for me, 'jumping at shadows' is as good as pete w/fm ever got. it has the passion, the economy, the empty space. that combination is what gets it everytime.

the devils been gettin at me, indeed! i play 'jumping' 20 times for everytime i make it all the way through the live version of gm .

but.....i realize there is no accounting for taste. i play 'bizzie lizzie' from 'whatcha gonna do' more than the live gm !

zero
