ive been wondering if this is really true

is it really true that christine got herself sterilised? because ive heard it occasionaly but only maybe once or twice, other than that no ones spoken a word of it. what do we think? and also if she did why did she??

Yes, it's true...around Rumours time. She had her tubes tied. There were several articles in the press(I believe in the U.K.) that mentioned this around that time. Christine has never said a word about this, nor should she, in my opinion. As far as why she did it, anything I'd say would be purely speculation. I think Lis wrote about this a little in the Chris/John story.

WOW. I never knew this! I wonder if maybe this was right after Stevie's abortion? To save herself from having to go through that.

I think it was slightly before all that (although didn't Stevie have several?) maybe it was near that time, I'm really not sure.

It was a crazy time. They were living crazy lives. I doubt she thought that having children would ever fit into what her life had become. Once her marriage ended, she probably thought at that time that the tube-tying thing was a wise and responsible decision. and in a sense, maybe it was, considering what stevie went through. I do have an article where Chris said that she loved kids, that Mick's two were like her own kids, but that personally she didn't think she'd ever have any, since she was too set in her ways to change, and babies certainly dictate change. but then in the eighties she did say she might like to adopt some children....and then last year she said how she sometimes regrets not having children.

I did speculate a bit about all this in my john/chris bio, as Mary Anne said. and yes, i still think it's unfair, how life turned out for her in that regard. This is a woman who watched her father, her older brother, her ex-husband, and her bandmates Mick and Lindsey go on to have children in their 'later years'.

I'll never believe that didn't sting her a little.

I read about this a long time ago and I thought at the time it was too much information.

It must be difficult if you're in the public eye. Obviously you want people to know your name because the whole idea of making music is that others listen to it and enjoy it. On the other hand all sorts of other stuff get talked about as well.

I think they call it the price of fame.

I agree. You couldn't pay me enough money to be famous. I'd hate it. I've often wondered how in the world this information became public. Christine, being as private as she is, would certainly not have said anything about this. I just wonder how the press found out.

thats partly why i was wondering if it was actually true or not, or just a rumour, because she wouldnt say anything, so how would it get out? unless they followed her!!! creepy........

I wonder that also. I recall reading somewhere that around the Rumours time there were 'rumours' of Chris being hospitalized/very ill. Now obviously the 'very ill' part was not true, but maybe she was hospitalized, and somehow the info leaked from that.....??

I agree, Lis. I think a lot about Christine.. I think some things in the past couple of years might have been kind of painful for her. Or bittersweet (like Lindsey says) at least.
