Question Technical question regarding his solos..

This may seem like a stupid question, so please be patient with me.. :-)

It's very simple.. When Lindsey does his solos, he takes a note by placing one finger on the fretboard, but then he strums all the strings.. Why don't we hear the rest of the strings? If he had it extremely EQ'ed, then I could understand it. But that's not the case, cause he can shift the string as easily as anything.. A good example of this is the end of 'Gypsy' in The Dance or Live in Boston, the fingers on his left hand are all over the place, but his right hand is taking all the strings.. It's as though that the guitar only picks up the active string..

Do any of you get this...? If so, please help..

He probably is muting the other strings by touching them with his left hand. A common technique which Lindsey, I'm sure, has completely down.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

Yeah, I do.. And I've considered that possibility, but I just can't see him do it in so many instances..

Everyone has had some good points on this one. Lindsey primarily plays a lot of open notes as well. I play in the exact same style. The ending to "Gypsy" on "The Dance" is very simple, but sound complex. The notes are played rather quickly on the top three strings.

So when are you gonna post some audio of your playing? You can't just keep talking about how easy it is to play Lindsey stuff without letting us hear you tackle it no problemo.

Same goes for all you other musicians.

It IS easy...i still have the 50 MB file of the "come" solo on my work laptop...whenever I find a way to bounce it over so its attainable, I will. Remember, I'm fairly computer illiterate

I checked that out yesterday on Live in Boston, and I've never noticed that before. Pretty cool.. But how does he prevent us from hearing the strings that are higher than the one he's playing...?

Yeah, but that doesn't really answer my question.. Cause while he's doing it, he is strumming all the strings. I would like to hear Audios of your playing as well..

But, IS he REALLY strumming all the strings or is it an illusion of the camera?

I can play single note flurries on my guitar, my hand motion LOOKS like I'm "strumming", but I'm actually only plucking a single string.

Excuses, excuses.

Open the file in CDex (freeware) & chop it in half or quarter, & then e-mail it right to You Send It from work.

Or just record something new -- a minute or two to keep file size down. We don't need to hear your entire Come solo.

Read the post Chili just made two comments up. He's right. My hands are all over the place but I could just be playing one string. The technique is a flailing, like a banjo picker. The fingernails pick single notes while the hand flails outward. He's not strumming "all" the strings. In fact, Lindsey very rarely "strums."

I say post the entire 50MB file. I've downloaded larger files even via uSendit.

Actually.. I've listened through a lot of his solos these last few days, and now I'm sure he's muting the other strings. You can hear it on 'Countdown' very clearly, he's hitting the other strings. So he must mute them.. It's also easy to hear on 'I'm So Afraid', in any live version..

You're very quick to point out that you play just like him, though I find that very hard believe. No offense.. But I've been playing for years, and I find it d*** hard to even sound remotely like him..

Because of my background auditioning dozens of people for my FM tribute band, I'm always skeptical, too. Since about 1997, I've auditioned about 25 guitarists who all told me they sounded like Lindsey, & quite frankly none of them did. Which isn't to say that Demon doesn't, but I've just heard so many claims from so many guitarists & drummers & bass players, etc., about their 'style' & whom they were able to sound like & play like, & it never quite panned out that way.
