Ooooh, Sam Elliott....drooooool............

The morning radio show I listen to got him to do a promo for them: He says their names and the station's call letters and then goes, "It's what's for breakfast." Cuz he did the voiceovers on the beef commercials. I loooove him! Moustache rides - 25 cents! LOL

Wasn't that a great movie? Joan Allen is really fantastic.

LOVE the Wiest.

Speaking of Wiest, Livia, did you notice that the Sinus Guys did The Lost Boys for like the 4th weekend in a row at The Alamo Drafthouse downtown? Zack and I went to see it and it was HYSTERICAL!!! I couldn't eat my pizza for fear of choking .

I thought James Garner did the beef commercials. No matter - I thought I was the only one who loved Sam Elliot.

Gar. Oh, how I wanted to be Cher in that movie.

You're right - James Garner did 'em for many years, then Sam Elliott.

Gar. In the fun house. Whee!

I like that he shakes things up, but I wonder how informed he really is, or for that matter cares to be. From what I've heard, he gets his opinions and obserations of U.S. culture and politics from the news, pop culture, t.v., etc. and then weaves narratives out of those sources. While that would make for an interesting po-mo, metalevel, fantasy it does nothing for the serious subjects (race relations, slavery, capitalism) he tackles in utmost seriousness and earnestness.

That said, I think Von Trier is a very smart, very enigmatic director, and I love the fact that he inflames, I just question his motives behind the flaming I guess.
I don't think he cares much about America's history or Danish history. He "uses" America because is the stage of the world, as a quite smart man said and the fact that he used a typical, overly symbolic Brechtian setting seemed a declaration of self irony to me. USA is a recognizable symbol for everyone. His characters aren't politic, are moral (Ibsen, Strindberg, Dreyer's ghosts make quite dark jokes in his cinema) and those fit everyone in every Country. The rest is a smart marketing tool to sell the movie, letting to Europeans (who see his movies much more than Us citizens) a comfortable and fake sense of superiority.

I saw the new Harry Potter movie the other day. EHH ok, not really my thing, but I didnt walk out. Incidentally I was a law breaker the other day. I went to see Zorro, then cause it was so dead in the theater I was at, after it was over I snuck across the hall and saw The Fog. The manager of the theater didnt even say anything.

The Wild Blue Yonder by Werner Herzog, it's a science fiction movie but out of any of the generic canons. It's poetic, powerful, provocative and visually striking. it took my breath away.

I am dying to see it. Maybe tommorow will be a double bill if I go to Harry Potter after.

I think June was a remarkable woman and the sniglets I have seen demonstrate both JP and RW are magnificent in it.
