This reminds me of how this hasn't sunken in for me yet. Despite how much it has affected my family and people I know (and certainly when I return to school later today I'm going to find out just how many of my friends/acquaintances don't have homes, or worse) but I really can't believe it. Nothing like this has ever been so close to home. First of all, "this" is pretty rare, and it just makes it more surreal that it's so close to home.

Did anyone see Bill Clinton talking about how the country did fail the people over in New Orleans etc? I was actually crying listening to him, after hearing all the stupid stuff Bush has said. Clinton speaks intelligently and rationally. He composes complete sentences. His thoughts flow together into a coherent whole. You trust that he has a functioning brain in his head.

What's REALLY sad to me is that average Janes & Joes continue to vote these megalomaniacs into power, year after year.

I argue with people all the time: the truly patriotic thing to do is not to vote. When you play a part, howsoever inconsequential, in putting a megalomaniac into a position of power & authority (high public office), you are chiseling away at the health of the Republic.

There was a new one today, I think it was from Pat Robertson, about how this disaster has been good for the supreme court nominee since congress won't feel right fighting it right now. It was something to that effect, I could not find the exact quote when I tried to search.
