It's another New Orleans thread so please don't flip out... I haven't posted in a week or so.. I don't want to sift through all the hurricane threads..
I apologize. Moving on. I live in Texas on the Louisiana border... and it's insane in my little town. These poor people are everywhere.. we talked to groups of people who are sleeping 20 to a hotel room! My friends and I have packed some people into a hotel room but 20? ! I just can't wrap my head around that... Well anywho... this particular group was just hanging out in the Walgreens parking lot.. cause they're bored insane... poor little kids just running around free as a fritter.. seriously... don't worry.. we're taking care of them... donations are flowing freely.. and yesterday when my mom sent her vegetarian daughter to chicken express I saw a massive bbq being set up at the ramada inn parking lot. did you know that the red cross will not take anything but money now?... the first couple days they took anything and everything.... ecspecially diapers! (by the way I think they are still taking diapers so if anyone has some leftovers (prefferabley unused) I think you can still send them to the red cross).. well the red cross might not take clothes and toys, but my friends at the ramada inn sure the hell are... well i guess the point of this post is to kind of spread the word about those who are being taken care of.. ya dig? kind of a ray of hope.. so to speak.. you flip on the tv and you hope to catch a glimpse of one of these poor people smiling ya dig? well i tell you what... their were some happy people at the bbq yesterday... just spreadin the word... for those of us who live off of coffee... you better go stock up.. cause new orleans distributed 50 percent of america's coffee... it's about to sky rocket. eeeh. Much Love Ciao! Ash x I really want to ask a question too... rumours(love that album) have it, that the majority of the people from these soaked states are going to start a new life in Texas.. basically where they are right now.. ya dig?.. what does this mean for Texas? our taxes? wel fare? is this a selfish question? I'm a college student who's barely makin it.. If I lose anymore weight I won't survive the winter. |

I know what you mean about all of it. I don't know what this will be mean for Louisiana or Texas. But where I live, we're packed with people, too. It's crazy. They're in better situations of course but at the same time I know that overcrowding is not a good thing (well, I'm stating the obvious).
I hear people's stories while waiting in line in Wal-Mart and they're awful. "Have you been home yet?" "Yeah, we went over there and there's almost nothing there." I heard another family talking about the people who were staying in their house. The daughter, who was in her twenties, was saying that someone who's staying in their house (a family member, I surmised) was stealing their belongings and that she was staying up every night to watch their stuff. Her mother refused to believe that that could have been happpening. |

Ash, I've helped many a college student thru school, and if You ever need any help (I don't know if your family is around), you just call me. PM and I'll give you my home phone number. I wasn't that long ago that my daughter was @ McNeese...I gave her plenty...but she still went and sold plasma to get 'party' on. Also, have some in your city to check with Ford Park Arena in Beaumont, they've been getting some housing and such...a local attourney has bought an entire apartment complex for displaced families. So if you know of any families, PM me and I'll give you his name. Back to the college thing....where are you going? And I'm serious....if you need anything as far as dorm stuff....supplies....clothes...some $$ I'd be glad to help you when I can. I put 5 through school and wish I would have had someone to help me!!!! love ya, Laura |

This is my deal... I'm trying to be the stubborn independant kid... I have a fantastic family who is always willing to help... I'm just trying not to ask anymore.... trying to be an "adult".... don't you worry about me... when my ribs start to show.. i will be dialing my momma's number... begging her to make that world famous potato salad.... I have got to run.... but I'll definently be in touch with you concerning the housing for the evacuees... Once again Thank You! You are truely awesome! Ciao! Ash x Oh yeah.. at the moment i'm studing Audio Engineering through a school at a local recording studio... Our final assignment is to record an artist all by ourselves without our mentor there..... I'm gonna ask Stevie Nicks. You dare me? !!! |

Now...for the mom in me! DO NOT let your ribs start showing by being too independent. My daughter only did it because I wouldn't support her partying anymore! Too much alcohol....too little food! Let me know where you're at....I'll send the "college care package special"! ![]() |
