I was in New Orleans in March. Glad I got to see the French Quarter while it was still there.

Oh great - now the oil markets are freaking out. Oil's up past $70/gallon in the first 45 minutes of the trading session. (I guess the East Asian markets are open now?)

They are also talking about how the new buildings construction code was only made to sustain 150 mph winds.

In Biloxi, approx. 40% of people are refusing to leave and are disregarding the evacuation order.

I wish I could understand what the hell is wrong with someone who decides to "ride it out". I would have left, like, last week. This kind of thing scares the sh*t out of me.

Isn't there a gasoline refinery in Mississippi that's in danger?

I was there in early May, on a Monday night after an obviously very busy weekend on the quarter. The whole place smelled like vomit and trash. I remember joking to my friends that the city needed a good hard rain to wash it clean. I'm kinda feeling bad for saying that now...

There are also alot of homeless people there. They will never be able to get out in time and have no where to go.

Last time I was there was July. I too am really glad that I got to see it like I'm sure it won't be after tomorrow. I just hope that somehow, it winds up being less severe than we all think it will be.

By the way, thanks for providing all the updates, Chris.

The one they keep talking about is Gulport, MS, which handles like 10% of the gasoline refining for the US. But there are refineries every few miles between Florida and NO.

Not to mention all the oil drilling rigs that have been shut down and evacuated in the Gulf. It will take a while to get them repaired and started back up.

I'm not sure if you're watching CNN, but they showed three dolphins that had been moved to a pool. I'm not sure if they were from the Aquarium, though. They must be scared.

I can only imagine how they're taking it. I wonder what's to become of the animals at the zoo? And as Heather mentioned, there are so many homeless people there and they have no place to go. It's just so saddening. I don't really know what else to say besides that.

I haven't felt this sick to my stomach in a long, long time, and I'm hundreds of miles away. I just hope everyone down there finds strength.
