You didn't notice how uneven it was when you first listened to it? Crikey. As soon as Every Day comes on, it's all downhill. Turd after turd after turd. It gets off to such a good start that the second half is positively jarring. With Every Day, the transformation into AC grandma is complete.

The middle of the album is soooo weak. I don't understand how Stevie would say this is her masterpiece- compare it to Bella Donna:

(A) Bella Donna
(B) Kind of Woman
(B) Stop Draggin' my Heart Around
(B) Think About It
(B) After the Glitter Fades
(A) Edge of Seventeen
(C) How Still my Love
(C) Leather and Lace
(A) Outside The Rain
(A) The Highwayman

GPA - 3.4
Stevie's a nutbag.

(C)Fire Burning
(F) Cry Wolf
(B) Alice
(B+) Juliet
(A) Doing the Best I Can (Escape from Berlin)
(D) I Still Miss Someone (Blue Eyes)

GPA - 2.54

Howzabout Street Angel?

(B+) Blue Denim
(F) Greta
(C) Street Angel
(F) Docklands
(F) Listen to the Rain

(B) Love is like a River

You're too kind towards Street Angel. Though I do like Just like A Woman and always have.

I'd actually rate It's Only Love and Love Changes higher myself.

I don't think it's her masterpiece but it's her most consistent album since the mid 80s. It's actually my third favourite from her, after BD and TWH

Me either. She's a strange lady that's for sure.
I mean I like the album and all but masterpiece?!?! hmmm..no.
I think it's very true when people talk about how protected or shielded she is from reality.

yeppers - I wonder myself sometimes if the lack of "amazing" lyrics stem from this. Look at the abundance of lyrical poetry early on...as she got more famous and possibly "removed" her lyrics may have suffered. How long can she write those classics based on 20 year old experiences. For our sake, I hope forever...

I think it's a very, very sad song. That's why she nails the vocal at the end of the song. You can tell she was hurt, bitter and disillusioned with life. For three years of her life 1991/1992/1993 she crawled away and secluded herself away from the world. Very sad. As pathetic as the beginning lyrics are, they bite hard like a bitch at the end-

"So, I'm going away for a little while to remember how to feel
And if I find the answer, I promise you, I'll come back and get you
"

Gives me shivers everytime.

I quite like the song: the lyrics are simple and predictable in some points but overall I find it extremely truthful, she lowered a lot of defenses with it, I think. Besides she performed it live with such an anergy.

And I agree with Stevie, Trouble in Shangri-La is her masterpiece (together with Bella Donna ).

I'm shocked, too, Towie. It's one of my faves. But! TISL is easily my least favorite Stevie album. Yes, even after SA...

Getting back to this picture, I think Stevie actually looks good in it and I've seen other pictures from the inauguration where she didn't look good at all. I just love her smile in this pic. Lindsey looks good too.

I don't like the sicky poo ballad types that much. Oh, and I, also, love Listen to the Rain. But then, I am a frontliner.....
