Well, if Sheryl somehow doesn't have another hit record in the next 20 years, we'll see how well she can sell out Jones Beach in 2025

What does it matter? LOL! I'm just saying that she has her own set of loyal fans!

of course.. but then again so does Britney Spears

my point is, i would venture to assume that the only reason why Sheryl has as many as she does right now (albeit, it's not as many as one would expect), is because she is always on the radio and is a hitmaker... Taylor Dayne had several top 10 hits and sold millions of records in the 80's.. yet somehow, i don't think she could sell out a large venue in 2005...

I would also add that Sheryl has a loyal fanbase also...sure it's not as built up, as connected and devoted as a whole as Stevie's is, but some of them would surprise you---she also does especially well in Europe.. She HAS played MSG many times, altho usually with a bunch of other ppl...

You might get the impression that Sheryl is stuck to playing 500 seater clubs, but that isnt the case--she plays those places because she likes to...I would love to see Sheryl in concert myself.

I also dont think you can safely say Stevie didnt benefit from Shery's musical friendship...MANY Sheryl fans bought TISL because of Sheryl's work on it.. Sheryl has also given Stevie lots of free press at times when she needed it (IE : When TISL was released) by constantly talking about their friendship in interviews..

Who's to say she will stop making hits years from now? See where you are wrong is in insinuating that Sheryl's music is not music that will last...yes some of the singles are fluff, but there are a lot of songs there that can stand the test of time--and like someone said, on her message board the thousands of fans there from all over the world would see her regardless of what she has out

Sheryl has very few peers of female rockers to have emerged in the last 10-15 years that have been able to sustain a consistently successful career .Where are some of her peers now ?Joan Osborne? Paula Cole? Tori Amos has been around a bit longer than Sheryl but her following dwindled to a strong cult quite a few years back.I don't buy for an instant that she was ever trying to ride Stevie's coat tails or acquire a loyal fan base from Stevie. This having been said Stevie is kind of unique in that she became a star in a different time and is the type of star that will most likley not be seen again. Her persona is something that belonged to a time that still had a patina of innocence about it .When people who were kids then as I was could actually believe that there was something magical about her.Sheryl does not have this mystique, maybe Tori does a little bit but not to the extent that Stevie did in those days.I'm still grateful I was around for that and that is why I remain a fan .

I think Tori Amos is one who WILL be around in 20 yrs...her fan base in ways is more cult like than Stevies...I find that many of Stevie's sell out venues only contain about 30% hardcore fans, and the rest are casual fans who dont know but the hits.... Since Tori's success has come more from concerts and albums, rather than singles---her concerts are mainly FILLED with hardcore fans, even if it is only 3000 ppl.. (although she is playing Jones Beach and PNC in August)

I think if Stevie catered more to her hardcore cultish fans and played smaller venues and mixed up the set list more as Tori does it would be apparent she has a similar base of fans as Tori.Stevie at the height of her fame (1976-1983) was bigger than Tori ever was, so she is also bringing in more casual boomer type fans who remember the hits of their youth by playing the same big hits in larger venues.

Oh yeah, you're exactly right. Stevie would not be able to sell out arenas with hardcore fans like us only...she needs the casual fans, who know her from radio hits, and all the other fame she had...A guy behind us at the Stevie Don show was heard before the show asking someone else "So do you know these people's music?" and the other guy was like "Well I know it's the Fleetwood Mac girl, and The Eagles man...so I know their hits yeah, and they better play them.." lol..there they were in the 6th!

Tori like you said has never had near the amount of success commercially Stevie has had....not with album sales, radio hits, anything...she's a total cult following---but it works for her...and she caters to those fans...

Yes, i agree.. Tori fans are as dedicated and obsessive, if not more so, than Stevie fans... how do i know??? every single of the woman's shows are booted and are of top quality.. they have an underground network that makes sure every show gets done.. amazing

Also they have a lot more reason to torrent than Stevie fans even do..considering Tori's set list can never be predicted, from one night to the next....When I saw her in Atlanta in April, the very next show 2 days later had 12 songs DIFFERENT than the Atlanta show

hereinmyhead.com is one kick ass sites that I visit frequently. the diagnosed sounds section proves your point! I am floored at the amazing quality and quantity of these boots. I HIGHLY recommend downloading Tori's version of Can't Get You Out Of My Head from this site. gives me chills.

Does it make you fall to your knees? Those songs kill me. I love S&S.

I've been somewhat of a fan of Sheryl's since Woodstock '94, that was pretty much when she broke through. She looked fantastic and she was playing guitar and singing these amazing words. She really stood out for that and I really wanted her record after that and got it. And yes, I was actually there.
