I love this album because I love 99% of what Stevie does...I can't help it! But I do understand where you're coming from. There is a lot of excess production on much of this album, IMO, and it took me a long time to get used to. I'm still not used to it on some of the songs, especially since I was already familiar with the marvelous stripped-down demos for some of them. The title track is perfection, IMO, and I do actually like the production on some of the other songs. I can barely tolerate Love Is, though, after hearing the incredible alternate version/rehearsal. I do not feel it is enhanced in any way by Sarah M.'s breathy vocal sound collage. Though I love this album, for whatever reason I do listen to it the least (save TimeSpace). Yes, that includes Street Angel.

I also think Stevie should have either saved If You Ever Did Believe for the album or just put it on there even though it had already been out. It fits right in if you add it in or swap it out for your least favorite song. I think that song is just phenomonal...one of my all-time faves. It took so long to see the light of day and now it's just lost in history on an unpopular soundtrack.

I knew I was a freak before, but this confirms it. Not only do I love the entire album, but I'm a huge fan of TFFT. Maybe it's 'cause I'm a Texan....but I love the music and the vocal....very catchy. It's probably my second fav album behind BD.

You are not alone in this. IYEDB is one of my top 10 Stevie songs off all time and should most definitely have been released on one of her albums, not a movie soundtrack. It is overlooked by a lot of people and I don't understand why more people are not in love with it. It is deep, emotional, and her singing on it is profound. The only problem with it is that Sheryl Crow is on it. It will never be lost in history in my book! We need to start an IYEDB fan club and revive it!!

Well, IYEDB was released as a single and it went, sadly, nowhere, though they promoted it heavily in the Atlanta market. I like the song though and thought the video was very cool.

Me too, as you can probably tell from my "location" line above.

Interestingly, TFFT is the ONLY TISL song I heard on the radio here. Both of the large country stations played it ad-nauseum for about two weeks, then *poof* - never again. I don't think it coincided with the beginning of the Dixie Chicks furor, but I could be mistaken.

And the crowd went wild for it during her show here, since Sandy was in the audience and was introduced briefly. Not to mention the Houston name-check during the song, which Stevie really emphasized: "in a room just outside of HOUS-TON"

I love TFFT as well. It aint perfect, but I like it, mostly because of the Heartbreakers music!!!!!!!!!!!!

KGSR played it a lot in Austin, too. And they nearly killed me by playing "Reconsider Me" a handful of times when Enchanted came out.

And that's really saying something given that KGSR at the time was ALL-Lyle Lovett/Stevie Ray Vaughan/Dwight Yoakum-all-the time.

Reconsider Me gat a bunch of airplay here in Atlanta. I think it had SUCH potential, but it never caught on. Oh Well.

We all have our preferences, Nightbird, for instance I can't listen to The Other Side Of The Mirror without a yoga session to prepare myself to the 80's scare.
About TISL, it made of me a fan of her solo work, I really love the album. I love the production, the way she transformed 70's demos in very contemporary music, the honest way she talks about feelings, almost violently, without using masks or defensive covers as she's often done in the past. Her voice is so unique that becomes another powerful instrument that lets the album reach my soul. Then some of the songs are masterpieces to me. Trouble in Shangri-la as an example, shows how acute is her glance on the world she's living, and how directly she's capable to look at her life, and how inspired her songwriting can be. Sometimes I think that if she wasn't so afraid to disappoint the part of the fans who are so nostalgic of the seventies and early eighties, she would go even forward on that path. She definitely tried on SYW too, so I'm hopeful fo r her next solo (yes, I think there will be another one, and another with FM too

).

#1- Planets of the Universe was brilliant IN ITS EXTENDED form from the single. In my opinion it should have ROCKED much more than it did. Too safe. The song didn't even get started until the soaring 'YOU WILL REMEMBER BUT I WILL DIE A SLOW DEATH part (only in the extended mix). I love the title song Trouble In Shangrila, Too Far From Texaz, and Fall From Grace. I also love Sorcerer. But I agree 100% with the posters who said her voice sounded too metallic and processed. I HATED the production of this CD. Sorry Sheryl. Just watered down and Stevie sounds like she is singing inside of a garbage can. I wish Stevie would stay away from Sheryl Crowe musically. No offense. And "Silver Girl" is one of the worst things I have ever heard. No more Sheryl.

How come Candlebright gets no love? I especially like the Noman demo. I think it's one of my favs on the album. Love the part "You drive me back again, and I come when you shine".
