Thanks for posting that, I like how Tom answered "She's incredible" When the guy talked about her harmonies. It's just exactly what I think.
Hi, Paula! One more day.....

Hey Amby! Been missing you lately - seems when you're on, I'm not & vice versa.

Thanks for the transcription! I'll have to get this book since I'm a huge Petty fan.
Dave seems to have that effect on women, considering all the nasty fights with Annie Lennox that I've read/heard about over the years...

But I still love him. And I'm glad he didn't work with Stevie (although I really couldn't tell you why).

Your heart sounds delicious .

I wonder what Tom meant about Stevie's work ethic. He said it was completely different from his, and after 1 track he decided he couldn't produce the album. Leads me to believe that Stevie was, if anything, slow at getting the job done (I wonder what caused this: drama? perfection? not sure what sound she wanted? etc..).

I bet Tom wasn't used to working with someone who started work at 9:00 p.m. either

Tom meant that her work ethic was good, but would have been stronger if she substituted the coke for Vitamin C tablets.

He mentioned her "entourage" as well, so there was probably a lot of futzing around with whatever in between working. Chatting, hemming, hawing, etc.

I also think the big Stevie entourage was a main problem. People like Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen get nervous (at least) having 20 strangers around doing nothing but distracting them. That's another reason why his friendship with Stevie seems so special, they're so different but there's this strong and deep connection between them. I hope they'll work together again soon.

well said. I agree.
I don't think Stevie's the kind of person who likes to be alone much, either. Maybe more, now, but still.

Yes now the entourage seems less a corporate convention. I guess having all those people around especially for someone who suffers of stage fright could have been reassuring, but courtiers are unfaithful and deadly... Stevie must have realized it after klonopin years.

Insider has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It was given to me on a Stevie Nicks mix cd a friend sent to me several years ago and I fell in love instantly. It's a live recording and Tom introuduces Stevie and the crowd goes wild and then at the end he says "Stevie Nicks!". I have no idea what it's from (I'm assuming early 80's) and come to think of it I've never heard the album version. Wonder how it compares to the live one I'm so in love with.

The album version is not as good as the live, but it is still good, and they made a video. As far as I know, there is no video of that live performance. That song obsesses me, I think it's wondrously beautiful, it's probably my favorite song and my favorite stevie voice. Talking about the live version you have. And, yes, at the end, I always go...."STEVIE NICKS! *ROOOOOOOOAAAAARRRR OF CROWD*" I really can't express how much I love that live version.

I'm sure everyone has seen this by now: remember TPs "Going Home" doc on the Disney channel back in the mid-90s? It showed TP presenting "Insider" to his band. If I remember right (haven't seen it in a while), he sits on the floor and plays acoustic guitar and sings it while the others look on. It's a really intense personal and beautiful moment. I would absolutely KILL to see SN and TP sing this (or anything else) live in person. Hell, I'd just like to see them on VIDEO together singing live at this point!

Inside live is from Tom's mid-80s live album Pack Up The Plantation, Live!, which you should all really buy - it's great. Plus it has Stevie and Tom's version of Needles And Pins.

The studio version is on Hard Promises from 1981. I think both versions are great although I know Amber prefers the live version.
The video (for the studio version) is simple but effective too.

Yep, everyone has this look of awe. It sounded amazing right from the start.

That programme also has footage of Tom teaching Stevie how to sing Stop Draggin' My Heart Around in the studio, which is very cool too.

I cannot express how much I love it either (has anyone told you lately you have great taste, Amber?) It made such an impact on me I had to make a copy of it for my co-worker who is a singer/songwriter and went on and on about how much I adore it. I don't really consider it a Stevie song though for some odd reason.
