She's never sounded quite the same since the dance... from Enchanted on, her voice has been thinner and less powerful... i wonder why.. voice lessons perhaps?? honestly, i think she sounded better on the street angel tour and the dance tour than the TISL tour...

I agree her voice was ON FIRE for SA and The Dance. Personally, I thought her voice soared for most of Enchanted as evidenced by her singing and mostly soaring on Sleeping Angel, which often brought me to tears with its effect.

I realize she was not well for most of the TISL tour, but even in the first couple of shows, she was soooo guarded with her voice. Same for SYW with the possible exception of BC, which was IMO stunning.

I guess she is just careful now that she is older. The last thing she wants to do is cancel concert dates becuase of that.

I've been saying that for years.

Want to know when it finally went bust? After AHI 2000. Everything after has been vocally weak, thin, and without any stamina. Something happened to her voice after that, seriously. Listen to that boot (and everything else from the nineties leading up to it) and then pop in anything from after it; the difference in her voice is incredibly obvious and kind of sad. It's no longer a powerful insrument like it was during SA, The Dance, and Enchanted and it really does depress me. I remember that the first time I had heard anything from her after that AHI boot was at the Blockbuster Awards and my jaw dropped. Then she went on Rosie and did Every Day and Landslide. Oy vey. It just hasn't been the same since 2000, it's lost something.

I think she jammed on Everyday on Rosie. I think it was really after that that it, for me went downhill. I mean SDMHA was unlistenable - though I did.

Yes...what was up with that song? Was a it a key change or what? I really do not understand that type of stuff but that particular song sounded bad on TISL. I liked her on Rosie and on various songs since then but Stop Draggin on TISL was scary. I really never recovered from that time she did in in Central Park...after apparently drinking a fifth of something.
She forgot at least fifty percent of the words.

when did she sing that in Central Park - was it the Shine boot with Crowe because Mamma Nicks was having a REAL big time that night - but I think Shine is a club and it is not in the park?

The Shine Club, yeah... that performance was a complete mess.. but i dont think she even cared about that... it sounded as if she was hanging out in her living room with Sheryl and they were doing shots in between songs...

It's not been as consistent, but she's still capable of singing well live. See "Beautiful Child" and some "Sara"s from the SYW tour (I know some will disagree with me on the "Sara" thing). Also, I think "Fall from Grace" at Blockbuster was amazing. She really sang that with fire.

I think it's a matter of how much she cares. At the time of Street Angel and The Dance, she was still trying to win back some respect. Now that she's back in the public's good graces, she's gotten a bit lazy again.

I tend to think it's more the fault of the health issues she's had over the last couple tours, rather than laziness. But I also know most people aren't willing to cut her any slack even for that.

At any rate, she is still singing wonderfully on her records. There aren't many lackluster vocal performances on either TISL or SYW. That's why I just want her to get back in the studio, and forget performing live for a while!
