He must not have been in Mass for very long. I don't think I've ever heard one referred to as a fountain.

I have never, ever, heard of bubbler. ever. only drinking fountain or water fountain. Most say drinking fountain. (water fountain? are there fountains that shoot other things?)
I thought it was weird that a lot of my answers said "West Great Lakes" region. I have lived here all my life. My grandma and great aunt moved from Michigan, but I wouldn't think that would influence much.
uh, innyways.

In NY, we can buy beer & malt beverages at the grocery store. Liquor & wine from the liquor stores (which are privately owned.) Depending on the county, sales stop at a certain time.

I'm in Erie County, so you can legally start buying alcohol at 8am. Except Sundays, when you can't buy any alcohol before 12 noon (which puts a real damper on football games if you forgot to grab beer the night before. ) Sales stop at 3 or 4am.

Liquor stores used to be closed Sunday by law, but they just changed it. The store can now be open on Sunday, but they must choose another day that wek to be closed. Most just stay closed Sun unless there's a holiday involved or it's football season.

As far as I know we do not have any drive-through liquor stores, but a few will deliver.

Oh, to live in another state . . .

PA has so many outdated laws regarding the sale of liquor and beer it is ridiculous. We aren't able to buy wine online and have it shipped to us (legally, that is) and we aren't allowed to buy wine, say on a vacation to VA, and cart it home across the border (again, legally that is). Also, no liquor can be sold at strip joints unless the girls wear G-strings and pasties.

How do I know all of this? In law school, I worked as a law clerk for the PA State Police.

This? rocks. I remember many a night of us trying to make it to AM/PM before 1:45....
There are no days here, of course, where you can't buy liquor. I think the bars can't open until later in the morning, though. But liquor stores are open way before that, so...

Nope he was born and raised in south Boston. I also thought that RI was the only place where you could order a grinder and a cabinet without people looking at you like you have 8 heads.

Yeah, and for ha-has don't forget to throw in the 18% tax on liquor sales to help fund the rebuilding of Johnstown after the flood in 1936. Un-frickin-believable.

29% (Yankee). You show a very strong Yankee score.

Grinder is weird... but I know what it is. However, what the hell is a cabinet?

And, this is the first time I've heard the term bubbler. I think it's pretty cool.

What the hell is a drive through liquor store? I've never seen one. I find it interesting that people from Wisconsin call fountains "bubblers," too.
I got basically the same. 29% Yankee. I live in CONNECTICUT! I've never heard of a drive thru liquor store either. That sounds slightly illegal, and definitely not safe. And I've never heard of a bubbler either.

In Indiana, bars and liquor stores close at 3 AM. They stop either midnight or 1 AM on Saturday night/Sunday morning, because there is no Sunday liquor sales here. You can buy beer in a bar on Sunday, but you can't take it home. YOu have to drink in the bar... There are no drive thru's, and you can't buy cold beer or liquor in a grocery store... You can buy beer in a gas station, and a pharmacy.

Interesting because growing up on the South Shore we definitely called it a bubbalah. When I saw the question I was like, "Is that so weird?"

Grinders I've heard of but we mostly call them subs and you're on your own with the cabinet. It's a drink, right? My friend Mike is from RI and he told me what it is but I forget.

Oh yeah, and for soda I actually grew up calling it "tonic" when I was little. My parents called it this but I don't know where that comes from.

Amber, of course your language is influenced by your family! It gets passed down. But it's also influenced by other things like geography obviously.

I had jury duty yesterday and the judge had a thick Boston accent. It is always sort of funny to hear a person in a prestigious position say things like "Jurah numbah 5, please approach the bench." I love it.

For the record: I never have nor will I ever say "youse." I always thought if I had, I would have spelled it "yous" without an e. Meh...go figure.

right, but i mean, everyone else I can think of that i've known has said things the same as I do. And only a couple of my answers said "Southwest & California" or "wherever and California".

Yes, it is what most people would call a frappe.
