I don't really know why I ended up in the 5th anyway. I'm not that bad. A few of my friends got the 9th, so compared to them I'm positively tame.

I'd sign for the 5th anyday to avoid the 9th. There you 're stuck in the ice or become Lucifer's appetizer. At least in the fifth there's someone to speak to.

"Blast From the Past" by Ben Elton.

Found this one in the $1.00 clearance bin (and its a hardcover!) at my local bookstore and recognized the author's name as being one of the writers from Blackadder.

The book is not at all what I was expecting but is very very good.

All right. You'll have to let me know if it moved you or not whenever you finish it.

I loved the Dollanganger series when I was a teenager, I read them all. My favorites were Petals On the Wind (the TRASHIEST one!) and If There Be Thorns. Julian and Cathy cracked me up in Petals, they were such sluts. The return of Corrine in Thorns was awesome, but I hated how she burned to death at the end. I was hoping Bart would die in the fire.

VC Andrews is so weird and it's hard to believe that the only books she actually wrote herself were the Dollanganger ones and a few other ones in the 80s. She was obsessed with incest, man.

You know - I always feel like though I read a lot- I'm really lacking on intelligent reading you know?

I read a lot of novels...but I always feel like I should take the effort to read classics or just something more intelligent to like keep up the learning or whatever...sigh - I just don't know where to start....

but then I think...well hey - at least I read a lot of people don't read at all...

I recommend starting with Bernard De Voto's "Across the Wide Missouri," a beautifully researched & written exploration of the fur trading among the Americans, British & French during the days of the early Republic.

I named my dog Benny in honor of Professor De Voto, & I joined the Oregon-California Trails Association many years ago as an homage to De Voto's "1846: The Year of Decision."

Come join me on the Overland Emigrant Trail!

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm excited because today on something I was listening to they profiled a book on the Spanish Armada that sounds absolutely fascinating....

Oh my gosh, I feel the same way! I always think I should be reading something...I don't know, better? But on the other hand, I have a couple of friends that don't read anything! That is just unbelievable to me.

I like to pick up a book, read the jacket & decide if I think I will enjoy it or not. So yes, I DO judge a book by its cover. And I've gotten over finishing a book just because I started it. It doesn't happen often, but if I'm not into it after the first couple of chapters, forget it. Why waste my time?

I've had a dry spell on reading lately. Haven't found anything that I really like. I have a book from the library called "The Trees of Eden" right now, but I can't seem to get into it.
