but it seems he does tell some fans some information about her and some fans would kill for any information about her or to know someone close to her. Its sad to see someone cozying up to him having seen them do this with half a dozen other people, who have no other worth to someone other than their connection (or possible connection) to a band member or someone in the industry. It's quite pathetic, and so calculated you could throw up.

Okay, so I just read all those 13 pages of that thread. It was seriously hilarious and creepy all at the same time. I thought I was a big fan, but that makes me look like nothing now.

No, sorry if it came off that way. It's just sad when you see a pattern of behavior from a few people using other people and the calculated way they go about it. I can't believe what some fans will do to get close to people connected to the band or industry. The only amusement is watching them chase people who have absolutely no connection to the band. Watching them deceive innocent trusting people who don't know their motives is just plain sad. I have no idea whether Mathew knows or doesn't know that people are doing this, or if he's able to distinguish who is true and who is not. Hopefully he can.

Right? The thing that disturbed me on top of that was the fact that this chick just COULD NOT see that what she and her friends did was strange or wrong...that was totally sad....and yes - folks like that totally give us "normal folk" a bad

I have to wonder if these people seriously think that actions like that are going to get them anywhere but in a court being handed a restraining order

I would never feel comfortable asking some guy I don't even know about Stevie but if others do, knock your socks off. I'm fairly certain he's 22 or 23. I think he can figure it out. Perhaps he's getting one big laugh out of it. I'm sure he's able to discern from the crazies. It's not that hard ~*~

He seemed a little freaked out by the fact that not only did people know who he was, but they were talking about him on message boards. Understandably so! I know I would be.

Hopefully he can, I wish the same; but I think people that behave like that as fans are the same who behave (or would like to behave) like that in everyday life, in their relationships with family, friends or at work. A fan community is a micro universe, I don't find so disconcerting to find also here a small percentage of them, we're all represented.

Crazy is a subjective word when it comes to fans

Seriously, the people I was talking about are all around in and very prominent in the FM online world and would not be classified as crazies. What they do is very calculated and very manipulative. Savvy sharp fans who have been around for ages have been taken in by what they've done, so I'm not so sure Mathew would know what they were up to.

Based on what WildInTheWind posted above and what I've heard he's told some fans, I'm not so sure he would be aware what some fans are really looking for. They're not obvious about it and go out of their way to make it appear they're not getting to know you and cozying up to you just for your contacts with FM or the industry.

Well if he still talks to Stevie (as he's said he does) and these savvy sharp fans are getting their dirt from unreliable yet believable sources, what would the point be in talking to Matthew when he probably wouldn't spill anything they'd want to hear anyway? He seems to have his head on straight. I tend to think he wanted to find out a little more about his mother because I wonder how much she was discussed while he was growing up.

I don't believe I said they're getting dirt from anyone. I think I said they persue anyone with a connection to the band or industry hoping they can. I also see some information is never enough for some and every bit of minutiae is important to them

I'm sure that's true and considering that Mick or Stevie couldn't give him those wonderful videos with his mother I would imagine it must have great for him to get them from the fan from this thread who sent them. Perhaps telling Stevie he's seen those will spur her to put someone to work finding all the other great films she has of his mother. After all, what is she saving them for? If digging them out for Mathew to see his mother isn't the best reason possible, I don't know what would be.

Sorry, I assumed your "taken in" was getting taken for a ride with unreliable information (i.e. "dirt") from said calculated and manipulative fans. Then again, some people that have psuedo connections to the band are quite quick to make statements alluding to the fact they know someone or something, are quick to defend and often at times just as rabid with their opinions and statements as those who believe these incredible lies. They make it their quest to rectify the injustices they see occuring. I'm not sure which fan is "crazier" (although we can't call them that because they're prominent) It seems like each is manipulating to me
