Default Straight Ticket Voting

Does anyone here straight-ticket vote? If so, why?

I don't, because the Republican candidate isn't always the one I want to vote for on EVERYTHING (although certainly for the majority of things). But I know there are a large percentage of people who do.

I'll vote for anyone as long as they're not a Republican.

Never - well actually that is not true - I voted all D this last time around - though I did so begrudgingly as that was the result of the lesser of two evils IMO. Cool threat though

I don't do anything that has the word "straight" in it.

Seriously though, I typically don't straight-ticket vote either... though there have been a couple of occasions where I actually liked all of the Democratic candidates on the ballot, so I voted accordingly.

I do although only coincidentally..it's not that I vote for them just because of the D beside their name....I research every candidate, and it just so happens in the general election I voted all "D" because I supported them

I have voted for a few Republicans in local elections

Exclamation Not I...

I decide who is best qualified (Even if I dislike 'em) and give that person my vote...

Voted for both Repubs (Who are considered moderates among the other Repubs who ran) & Demos (Again moderates) in the past election for Oklahoma state offices.

Well, I've only been able to vote in one election, but in general: I read up on everybody and choose the person I think is the best candidate. It so happens that they've all been Dem or Green so far. Since my definition of the "best candidate" translates largely to who shares my views and will most effectively use their position to legislate in favor of them, I have a feeling they will always be Dem or Green because I fundamentally object to pretty much the whole Republican platform. In theory, would I ever vote for a Republican? Sure. Is it likely to happen? Not unless Zell Miller runs against Olympia Snowe.

I'm as Democratic as they get, but I love Olympia. She would most certainly get my vote.

no, generally i research everyone and choose the candidate that i agree with... most of the time my choice is in my party... if there are local candidates who i really can't decide on then i will vote for the person of my chosen party.

I will say though, there was a pres election where i voted outside of my party... well, i tried to vote- i was out of state and my home state at the time took so long sending my absentee ballot that it arrived 3 hours before it was supposed to be received back in my home state... yeah... that's impossible- even if i had jumped on the next plane i could not have gotten it there in time for it to count.

That pretty much sums up my position. I also consider whether my vote is likely to have any value and though I really LIKE a lot of Green or even Independent candidates, we are still in reality a two party system so in a choice between Democrat/Republican, its Democrat all the way.

Typically, yes I do. But not blindly. I'm not registered either as a Democrat or a Republican. I vote for the person that I either like the most or hate the least, and 99.9% of the time that person is a Democrat- as in the case of John Kerry, who I despise but I despise Dubya more - not that it makes any difference at all in a presidential election as we learned when Bush was elected to his first term, but I digress.

I MOVE THAT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE BE ABOLISHED AND A TRULY DEMOCRATIC ELECTION BE PUT IN ITS PLACE.

I suppose if I had to choose a party, I would be a Democrat. And for the most part, I do despise most Republican politicians, especially those in high places that I've recently been given the option to vote for or against - namely Dubya and the Governator. For the record, I voted against the recall and for Gallagher in the California Governor recall election.
