It seems more likely to me that the mistake was made by David McLees & Gary Peterson on the reissue package. Album sleeves & jackets are notoriously underedited, & often contain misspellings, inaccuracies, wrong factual details, etc.

The members of the band -- mostly Chris & Lindsey -- have always referred to "Keep Me There" as the kernel of "The Chain." So it stands to reason that the unreleased track we have from the "Rumours: The Other Side" bootleg (Track 10), which is also the one used on the DVD-A that Ken Caillat put together, is the *real* "Keep Me There" because it's the one that obviously is "The Chain" -- that's apparent to any musician & even to most anyone who isn't.

"Butter Cookie" on the reissue has nothing to do with "The Chain." Some sort of procedural or logistical error is probably at the root of the use of "Keep Me There" in parens after "Butter Cookie."

The only other explanation I can think of is that Chris threw the "Keep Me There" title around on a couple of songs that she had brewing, so maybe there's an old reel or studio log that McLees saw that had "Butter Cookie" listed as "Keep Me There," too. Studio logs & track sheets also often contain errors: for example, the instrumental track sheet on the DVD-A for "The Chain" lists no Hammond organ, which is a definite mistake.

I wish we had the whole track (Track 10) of "Keep Me There" from the bootleg available in studio sound -- it's scratchy & squeaky on the bootleg (another Maureen special). I can't believe that it wasn't put on the DVD-A in its entirety (was it?) or on the reissue at all.

Just had a listen to the Rumours DVD-A. I'd forgotten how cool the audio commentary tracks sound. I never really heard the Rhodes on 'I Don't Want to Know', but it's clear as a bell here. I'm having a hard time finding the B-3 on 'Second Hand News' though. Maybe its just barely audible in the midranges during the chorus or maybe I'm just hearing things....

I think there are some mistakes on the Rumours DVD-Audio. As David mentioned earlier, the Hammond organ is not listed on "The Chain", but electric piano is listed instead. I don't think there's any electric piano on "The Chain", but there's definitely an organ on "The Chain". And, I think the Hammond being listed on "Second Hand News" is a mistake also. Chris said on that Rumours Japan documentary that she didn't play ANY keyboard on "Second Hand News". She just played the "chair".

I had always thought the Chain (well, the music anyway) came from this jam I have on a bootleg tape. It sure sounds like the Chain at the end???

I think the jam you're referring to is 'Keep Me There'. I love the groove on that instrumental. There's definately a rhodes piano there, but I guess it was removed with the rest of the track. I like to imagine what the lyric/melody line would have been over that tune. I used to wonder about the lyric/melody line on 'Too Much Is Not Enough' from the Christine documentary circa 1984 until I finally got a live boot with the complete song. That's a great tune too!

I agree. "Too Much Is Not Enough" is a real good rock and roll song.
