Frankly, I don't care whether conservatives feel unwelcome here or not. I feel unwelcome in this whole f**king country right now. So, excuse the hell out of me if I don't cry over the fact that you don't feel welcome on a f**king Internet message board.

Christ, you people get exactly what you want and you STILL F**CKING WHINE!!

What more do you want?? You want me to kiss your a$$ now that you've f**ked me over in 11 states? Go jump in a boiling vat of oil.

Mark, I completely understand your anger, but I don't think the conservatives here are representative of those who'd just as soon spit on us as look at us.

I think a lot of younger conservatives, especially, are sympathetic to gay issues. And while it's extremely frustrating to see them continuting to vote for politicians who are so obviously against gay rights, at least there's hope for the next generation of conservative politicians to be more open-minded and compassionate than the current regime.

In fact, the more conservatives we can persuade to see "our side," the better off we'll be in the future.
So, my friend, we need to make more allies... not more enemies.

(Though I must admit it's always ironic to see those who are in the majority, wringing their hands about being in a minority. I think we can all safely say that being on the outside isn't a very comfortable thing... all the more reason to work towards a more inclusive governship.)

You're obviously infinitely more patient than I am.

It's just so completely unbelievable to me that someone would start a thread like this. I don't want to be allies with them at this point. I want them to stay away from me.

Well, Christians do have one hell of a martyr complex.

Limbaugh supporting Saddam Hussein:

"And now the liberals want to stop President Reagan from selling
chemical warfare agents and military equipment to Saddam Hussein, and
why? Because Saddam 'allegedly' gassed a few Kurds in his own
country. Mark my words. All of this talk of Saddam Hussein being
a 'war criminal' or 'committing crimes against humanity' is the same
old thing. LIBERAL HATE SPEECH! And speaking of poison gas . . . I
SAY WE ROUND UP ALL THE DRUG ADDICTS AND GAS THEM."
Rush Limbaugh, Nov. 3, 1988

You first, Rush!

Ironically, having patience is always something I've had to work on. It sure doesn't come naturally to me, but I'm trying!

I understand. I honestly do.
(By the way, check out the postscript I added to my reply above.)

I'm still pretty angry, myself. I want to see positive action from conservatives who support gay rights... not just mere lip-service.

But, unfortunately, what's done is done, so now we need to start working towards the NEXT Presidential election, and raising some awareness before then.

So, yeah, we should all be angry and feel disenfranchised right now... but then we need to let that fuel us towards working to win more people over.

A close friend of mine tells me I have a Superman Complex (in that I want to "save the world").

But... at least he didn't say I had a Wonder Woman Complex!

Yeah, I'll have to check it out some time...as if 10 years of Catholic School and a near conversion to Buddhism in 1984 aren't enough.

Whether it's a top agenda for the particular voter or not, to partake in giving the administration this power, to me, is thinking very little of your rights. Little enough to justify an unwillingness to make up and shake hands.
I'm liking you more everyday I tell ya.

Well, the seemingly callous disregard for gay rights from people who claim to support them, is exactly why I'm so disappointed and angry.
I'll be honest and admit that I'm not completely ready at this very second to "kiss and make up"... I am still stinging from what feels like a slap in the face.

But... at some point in the very near future I do feel it's very necessary to sit down with those who are "sympathetic to the cause," and work towards some kind of understanding with them as to why it's of the utmost importance that we not elect (or, worse, re-elect) the politicians who are looking to deny or rescind ANYONE'S civil rights.

I'm spitting mad, too, but I think it's detrimental to make enemies out of anyone who's at least open to seeing where we're coming from, and who might prove a powerful ally in the future.

So my plan is to grouse for a while until I get some of it out of my system, and then resume my plan to change the world, one mind at a time.
