Default Favorite Lindsey Lines

"I've got to stop this obsession of revenge and fear
I've been running from everything that I once held dear
And it feels so cold; it feels like sin
I've got to stop this obsession and start living again."

"There can be little gain without some loss, and little redemption without forgiveness." (not from an actual song, but still good!!)

There are so many that it's almost impossible for me to pick favorites...but today's favorite is:

Two kinds of trouble in this world
Living
Dying

I agree; I love the lyrics to "Miranda."

Here are a few of my other favorites too:

(1) "The closing of a chapter
The opening of a door
Brings forth life
Where there was no life before"

and "Pray for guidance from above
Shadow all your hopes with love
Live your life without a doubt
Outside in, inside out"

(2) "So I'm sitting in the shade
Under the dreaming tree
Now the madness fades
Right here I'm going to be"

(3) "They told me that I never would recover
Still some say they knew me well
I said
"Stay by my side"
But no one said nothin'
I walk a thin line"

(4) Of course, "Packin' up, Shackin' up's, all you wanna do."

(5) "There’s a shadow on my daddy’s stone, where he was laid, laid to rest.
I ask him is this just a dream, or is it just another test?

Just to name a few.

Default Some I thought of just now...

"It would do no good to drown in the sea where no one remembers their name and nothing but nothing is free" ~ Castaway Dreams

"I hear your heart as you pass through; I know the pain that you feel I'll shepherd you"

and

"Lay your head down, no one will see; Cry me a river of new dreams, float
yourself free"
~ Under the Skin

"Nothing to prove your blood is mine; I have no children just some design; Woven mystery that fills up this womb; No little children left to go home ~ Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind

"We never took quite enough chances we never had quite enough time;
I did about a thousand dances but nothing would change your mind"
~ Down On Rodeo

"Living in exile ain't the way to go
It's just another way of dying
A whole lot of faces that you call your own
All those faces are crying
You either run or you hide
Now you slip now you slide
You say you will, but you won't
You either do or you don't"
~ You Do Or You Don't

"The nighttime filled with the cold winter chill
The rain is music on my window sill
The days are short, the nights are long
Won't someone show me where I belong"
~ Slow Dancing

"Swimming in the water
Goggle at the moon
The currents they caught her
Hiding in my room
Mirrors in her eyes
She was wet, she was soakin'
Ashes in the ocean and her heart was broken"
~ Great Day

"No one knows my name, walking down the street, baby, now"...and...

"Is it just that we must?
Is it hear that we gear?
Is it only that we're lonely?
Is it there that we dare?
Is it lies that we fight?
Is it whores we adore?
Is it god with a rod taking more, more, more?"
~ Wait For You

"I'm a little lost, let me find my way
I'm a little dead, let me live
Been living in the past, let me rise today
Lead a selfish life, help me give"
...and...

"You were living under the reign of kings
You were living under the gun
I know it made you do a lot of things
You wish that you'd never done"
~ The Right Place to Fade

"Give us a song but don't live what you sing, say what you mean but please don't mean a thing" ~ Underground

Well, although I'll always say "Fate takes time," I can't go through the whole career, but let me do some of the most recent favorites:

"Tell me all your fear will allow. It doesn't matter who we thought we were. We ain't got time for that now."

"In my younger days, I was mistaken for a whore."

"Tarantula passes by the window, no one takes it as a sign."

"Everyone's peace lives side by side with their war."

And my favorite from UTS:

"I'm a madman out on a badman route"

"When the play is unoriginal and the cast scrapes and bows and the only way you can seize the day is to blend into the crowd . . ."

"She's so crazy, She's so lazy

So attractive, So reactive

..Dusty Fury on the Mountain Top. (the most evokative Lindsey lyrics ever. I always thought this was a reaction to Stevie's repetitive mountain image, and that really, there is fury on that mountain. Personal interpretation, probably all wrong.)"Caroli-hi-hi-hi-hi-hi-hine

"I won't be home tonight,
I'll just slip out of sight,
Lay down my visionary eyes,
Dancing on my cast away dreams"Cast Away Dreams

"You're here 'cos I say so. (Ohhhh hell! )
Didn't wanna be this late
So don't make me
Don't make me wait!" IKINW

"You know I think all of us have, uh, some inner demons that we struggle with.
I think all of us have..*drum bang*.. There's one now!..
I was talking about my demons not yours..!!" technically TECHNICALLY, part of a song, so it counts. Had to put it in there, cracks me up everytime.

Say Goodbye, in its entirity.
I'm So Afraid, in its entirity.
Shut Us Down, in its entirity.

Its not in one of his songs but its a great quote he made.

"If you’re any good at all, you know you can be better. You try to keep grounded in your process, in your work. And the challenge of doing that, amidst the madness...some people can do it and some can’t. I’m not saying that I’ve always been able to do that, but I am saying that I’ve always tried to do that. And then eventually, you can define yourself, or a portion of yourself, by the choices that you made. "

You can fight, you can pray, you can reach for the sky
You can heal someone's soul, you don't even know why

Lindsey says some interesting things. I mean, even if it's not monumental, it sometimes resounds so deeply with me. As I always say, I love when he said of John that he could get John to back off if he wanted, but he doesn't. You learn to appreciate that tension of thinking that someone is going to run all over you (your guitar lines) and then they don't. I think that's a great quote about relationships in general. There's both a tension and a trust going on there. Friction and faith -- and that's the definition of "chemistry."

This is minor, but there was one interview where I think swimming came up and Lindsey said he went to a restaurant and the owner had all these pictures of himself playing sports in college or something and Lindsey observed that the guy must really not like being a restaurant owner.

I'm just paraphrasing here. The point is, I really liked that different way of saying he doesn't live in the past. He wasn't talking about Rumours or music or anything. He just looked at someone else's wall hangings and how they had nothing to do with the man's present life and made a statement about it.

As for lyrics, Memories awaken sorrow from their sleep . . .

Plus, Miranda is pretty solid all the way through. Every.single.line.

Can't stand to be loved, but she loves to be seen.

Loneliness follows Miranda and Miranda is always alone.

Miranda is taking the stars down, a little something to call her own.

She never comes. She always goes.

She slips the camera right into her arm, anything to forget what the trouble's about.

She slips down the shade and lets herself drown.

Default and what will be will be

"And did you ever wonder the places we would go? And did you realize we felt your woe?"

"If we forgive ourselves we might be whole, but you know that wishing, wishing won't make it so?"

"What am I doing anyway? Telling myself it's not too late."

Heart

All of Red Rover, but this part in particular.

"You don't belong here
I guess you never did.
Whisper murder in your ear
You just keep it so well hid.

Anyone at all, could see what was missing
Could see you were dying, but no one was crying.
And the lips you were kissing, night after night
All were bathed in blue, all bathed in white....
Red rover, red rover, red rover, we come, we come, we come to take you over."

Also this...

"One of the quiet ones, one of the few..."

I just had to turn on my Zune player so I could listen to it. I love Red Rover SO much. I remember hearing it for the first time and being in awe. I'm getting teary just sitting here listening to it. Still gives me chills after all this time.

You all have mentioned some amazing lyrics by LB.

YES! YES! YES!

The lyrics to this song are mind-blowing!

I have to add this part:

"Why do you come around... so very much... you know it just brings you down...it's just something you can touch... you don't belong here.... I guess you never did..."

Absolutely BEYOND GENIUS !!!!

Just a few for right now, there are so many:

I'm a little lost let me find my way. Im a little dead let me live. Been livin in the past let me rise today, let my selfish life come again.

Wait for the light that might light our way, wait for the right twist of fate.

-Twist of Fate

You can hurt, you can heal, you can reach for the light, You could trust in yourself if you give it a try. - Pretty much my anthem song

Turn it On
