Default Best Bootlegs

Out of all the bootlegs you've heard (if any), which artist or band seems to have the highest quality? Worst quality?

For best quality, I would have to say Blondie bootlegs are the best ones I've ever heard. The audience recordings sound like soundboard shows. And they change the setlist nightly.

Unfortunately, Mac bootlegs are the pits. If you can tolerate Mac bootlegs, you can listen to anything!

Exclamation OH boy...

Best-
The Beatles (The BEST period of unreleased studio material!)
Bruce Springsteen (The best recorded concerts of all the artist I collect)
Rush (I just received a 2004 Rush show that is an audience recording, Could've fooled me...GREAT show that one!)
U2
The Rolling Stones

Worst-
Fleetwood Mac (The 2003-2004 have improved the overall quality...But still a LONGGGGGG way to being considered good quality bootlegs.)
Stevie Nicks

Glad someone agrees with me. As much I love listening to them and trading them, they really suck teabags. I have a Blondie show from 1978 that's an AUD recording and it sounds like a soundboard show. Then I have Stevie shows from the 80s that sound like they were recorded in the bathroom during a pee break.

Exclamation Plus...

most of the FM/SN shows are poorly transferred from tape to disc and/or transferring 'em to mp3 reduces the bad quality to an even worse quality.

The reason why they suck so badly is because the tapes that were eventually transferred to disc were probably 500th generation copies. And the videos are even worse. I had the pro-shot San Jose Mirror show and it was horrendous. I finally tracked down a second generation copy and it's perfect. Those noise reduction audio tapes are the devil, too.

Fleetwood Mac gets a "C" overall...The 2003-2004 shows have helped the overall grade to be much better.

Video wise
Best-The Beatles
Paul McCartney
U2
Bruce Springsteen

Worst-Too many to be named, But once again Stevie falls into this catergory

ps-Anything I have transferred from tape to cd will NEVER suffer from "noise reduction". I prefer the hiss of the tape with a high end/clear audio over a "no hiss FLAT audio".

Besides, "Noise Reduction" can alter the sound when the volume is increased leaving the listener with poor audio.

Bowie video is good, too. I have a few of his live videos and they're great quality. I'll take VCD over video any day because there's no loss in quality from the master tape and it's a helluva lot cheaper than DVD-Rs. I could care less if it's split between two VCDs, just look at Live In Boston.

I refuse to purchase noise reduction tapes. I used to make tapes for my car and it would drive me bonkers to hear a song blast out of the speakers only to have the audio drop because of the noise reduction. And when you try to copy old Stevie demos, she sounds like a more feminine Harvey Fierstein.

I just feel the Quality control of the FM/SN recordings could and SHOULD be better than what I have heard over the past few years...

Compared to other bootlegs by other artists the FM/SN recordings are very weak, Even when compared to some of the other artists recordings that are over 20-25 years old (ie-U2-Nov.21,1984-Dortmund, Germany...This stereo "FM radio" recording SMOKES and except for the minor fadein at the very beginning of the disc to edit the German radio announcer this disc is one of my favorite bootlegs out of my complete collection. The version of the song "Bad" on this disc is the BEST version of the song ever, It brought me to tears when Deb was in the hospital and I was scared I was going to lose her.)

Default You diehard fans - check this out!

Hey guys did you see this auction on eBay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=4025585864

There's even some bootlegs in there. That 'smiling ears' record has a track on there, not sure what it's called, it's a rare one.

Later...
