Thanks to the gipper...
there isnt a damn thing on TV at this moment (Cannot even watch the #$%^& local newscast)

How was it hateful. The sentence looks weird. I'm not glad that he died, I'm glad that this whole stupid "old president died" thing had some positive results. Because frankly the news coverage has been annoying the hell out of me. I'm not glad he died.
