Thanks for giving us the link!
This is a fabulous article on “the man who made the machine roll!” I love the way Buckingham took – and still takes – risks! He always wanted to be the best he can be. And right now, he IS! ![]() I can never hear this enough: Aside from writing many of the group’s catchiest and most commercial songs - MONDAY MORNING, GO YOUR OWN WAY, SECOND HAND NEWS, NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN – he played all the guitars on the albums, mixing acoustic and electric axes in fingerpicking and conventional rock stylings, did most of the vocal arrangements, which became Fleetwood Mac’s trademark, and had a heavy hand in the production of RUMOURS…. Found it fascinating when he explained the background cacophony of TUSK in detail, Fleetwood's off-the-cuff drumming and the inclusion of the pretty FARMER'S DAUGHTER in their repertoire. Buck has a magnificent mind! ![]() Here are some cool quotes from Lindsey Buckingham: “I never even put up any of my gold records. If you’re a good craftsman, a good actor, a good anything, you know you can be better and there’s always another goal to shoot for.” LB Jan. 1981 “Ideally music education should teach you about possibilities rather than formulas.” LB Jan. 1981 “Did you see that article in US that quoted Stevie as saying that doing the album was like being held hostage in Iran with Lindsey as the Ayatollah? [laughs] That wasn’t the feeling there at all. I mean she wasn’t even there most of the time. She’d come in to do here song once a week and that would be it. Hostage?” [laughs] – LB Jan. 1981 “There are still good creative ties and I think we all still enjoy and need the feedback we get from the group adulation. I can’t imagine not feeling that way anytime soon.” LB Jan. 1981 ![]() Last edited by 4Buck; 04-03-2004 at 11:57 AM.. |

Q: You’ve always been portrayed as a fairly private and introspective sort. How did it feel to have your personal life and your relationships splashed across the pages of half the magazines in America when Rumours became such a big hit?
A: I don’t feel as though it happened tome that much. The "sensationalists," if that’s what you want to call them, were always more interested in Stevie and Christine. It’s only fairly recently that writers have begun to pick up on my energy, and so far it’s been pretty great. There hasn’t been too much discussion of things other than my music. I’ve always been in the background more in terms of publicity or image or whatever. That’s good. I have all the anonymity I want. I can walk about and nobody really bothers me. Q: Stevie can’t, I imagine. A: Stevie wouldn’t really want to. She would always dress up as flamboyantly as possible when she went out, so she’d be noticed. She’s a different kind of person than I am. People are appreciating me for the reasons I want to be appreciated for, and not for my chiffon gown. [Laughs] MEOW!! lol... a lot of other great quotes in there, too! ![]() |

Hehe. LMAO at the chiffon quote! This was 1981, when Belladonna was HUGE and I'm sure he was hurt that he didn't get recognized much for Law and Order. ![]()

Buckingham was just being honest here. Not jealous.
This interview had to be done at the end of 1980. Articles always are published at a later date than when they actually were done....Nicks’ first hit from BELLADONNA, (STOP DRAGGIN' MY HEART AROUND w/Petty) didn’t peak at #3 till the end of July 1981, And TROUBLE (I love that song!), Buckingham's first solo single from his first album, LAW AND ORDER, didn’t peak at #9 till the end of October of 1981. So at the time of this interview, the success of both their albums was still questionable... I’m with Lindsey, though. Stevie worked one day per week on TUSK and that’s “hostage?’ Where can I find a high-paying job like that for one day per week that guarantees me fame and fortune -- and Lindsey Buckingham? ![]() |

Remember when we had him pinned as a murderer thanks to about 3 of his songs., plus he'd just said in an interview 'I'd probably be in jail if not for the music' ![]() I love 'Shuffle Riff'!!!!!

This is the optimum time to re-link us to Lindsey's intelligent BAM interview. With the new awesome TUSK REISSUE and all, I like to read paragraphs of super-genius Buckingham "talking TUSK!"
