How did you love that group of renegade Democrats that stood up and applauded when he said the Patriot Act would go out of effect next year if they didn't vote for them to extend it. Hurrah!

Doll, I stood up at that point. Nothing like civil liberties compromised by renegade Republicans!

He can say make a little mention, but this is too much for me:

"My fellow citizens, we now move forward, with confidence and faith. Our nation is strong and steadfast. The cause we serve is right, because it is the cause of all mankind. The momentum of freedom in our world is unmistakable, and it is not carried forward by our power alone. We can trust in that greater power who guides the unfolding of the years. And in all that is to come, we can know that His purposes are just and true.

May God bless the United States of America. Thank you."

Yup. Doesn't exactly reach out to the Agnostic vote, does it?

Oh please, based on his Lord-spouting, he must think he's a minister.

You must be confusing him with Pat Robertson or Pat Buchanan

I admit that they do a bit too much, even for a "conservative" like me.

I believe in God, but I don't feel it is necessary to show it down anyone's throat. Quite the opposite. I think if people want to hear about it they will ask or will be open to it. Of course, I would NEVER want to say that God "speaks" to them, or I would be labeled a "crazy conservative extremist"

Well then I guess we shouldn't say the pledge of allegiance. And we should take IN GOD WE TRUST off of American money

No different than celebrities shoving their beliefs on God, war, and a myriad of other issues down my throat...but evidently THAT'S OKAY

My only beef with the God mentions in govt. sanctioned public speech is that it is a lie. We are not one nation "under God" because they are talimg about the Christian God to the exclusion of any other God. Interestingly, that phrase was put in there in the 1950's in an attempt to ward off Communism (go figure

). Originally, they wanted "One nation under Jesus," but it was thought that might exclude too many Americans. Also, I believe the Sup. Ct. has prohibited the govt. making anyone say the Plede of Allegiance as the "under God" part seemingly violates the Frist Amendment's Establishment Clause.

But, in the end, I think arguing over these references to God is a waste of time when they are vastly supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans and I think we should be concentrating of feeding the hungry, etc. Yet, the fact that the far religious right slipped in "under God" on that BS ground just irks me

Sort of like Georgia putting the conferderate flag on its state flag in the 50's as an FU to the anti-segregationist Fed. Govt. - then having the nerve 50 years later to say it was always on the flag and is just a harmless reference to Southern heritage.

That has nothing to do with anything. Liberal or not, it is not the job of the president to "show us the way."

I'm not saying that it is. I could care less if he says God once or 40 times....if it bothers you, sorry. It doesn't bother me and I wouldn't care whose mouth it came out of (no, I do not belong to any religious group). As much as we all want to believe there is a clear, definitive seperation of church and state, there never was and there never will be. And his saying GOD? Is the least of America's worries.

It just makes his agenda more apparent. He should leave his beliefs in the church, that's all I'm saying. He doesn't need to talk about "him" and "his way" and "our lord."
