A real sad new. I just checked media and found tribute posts from so many people. Brian May, Elton John, Boy George, Lily Tomlin, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, the Jackson 5 Instagram account, Dionne Warwick, Pedro Pascal, Danica McKellar Carol Burnett, Jaime Lee Curtis, Mick Fleetwood, Jane fonda, Cyndi Lauper, Donna Summer family...

That shows that, besides being a great artist, she must have been a great person, admired and loved by many.

I know quite a few friends who have met her, and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about her. What you saw is what she was.

I have a friend who sang a duet with her on their(his band's) album. I asked, "how was she in person?" I was sorely disappointed to find out that in this day and age, they never met. The tracks were just sent back and forth digitally, from studio to studio. That kind of takes the romance out of a duet...

She was one of the greats. She could do it all. Act, sing, write. She gave back to her community and gave books to children for free. There are really few superstars like her in the world. And now she is gone. Rest in Peace Dolly.

This one really hurts. In a time where there are so many selfish, self-serving and ****ty people in this country, she was a shining beacon of everything good and decent that a person could be. She is the epitome of everything anyone should strive to be regardless of your station in life.

At happy hour today, we were talking about WHO ELSE was as iconic as Dolly? And really, Elvis was the only one we could come up with, that had such a huge impact on the world. That could make the entire world mourn...

Michael? Too much controversy.
Mick Jagger? Not philanthropic enough.

Dolly was as big as Elvis, and there really aren't many others in that category.

She's definitely someone larger than life who you just expected to keep going and it was a shock to learn that she was suddenly gone. She was a dynamo.

Dolly was in another league. Its sort of like how Michael Jordan was in another league even playing in the NBA. She was on Howard Stern a few years ago promoting her book and her life is nothing short of amazing. What surprised me was how loyal she was to herself and such smart at business. At the peak of Elvis's fame and few knew who Dolly was (except in TN) Elvis wanted to record one of her songs. Her deal was he could sing it but she would keep the royalties since it was her song. Elvis did not do that. His manager offered a compromise of 50% royalties and she said no. Another little known fact is she never gave Whitney Houston permission to sing her song. Kevin Costner got involved with Dolly and Dolly gave permission for her song to be used in the movie. Then one day Dolly is driving and hears Whitney's version and loved it. She gave permission for the song to be used but had no idea it was going to be re-recorded. And when she did 9 to 5 she was a really good actress. My favorite line is when Lilly Tomlin is pushing a covered dead body out the door of hospital and Jane Fonda asks Dolly "How's Violet (while on a pay phone). Dolly is watching Lilly pushing this dead body out of the hospital and says with a blank gaze "honey I think Violet has flipped out".
Dolly was pure love. She was a very rare and unique that in these divided time she is beloved from liberals to conservatives and everyone in between. Her legacy will live on.
