Default Your second favorite

This post just appeared, and since Stevie is there it doesn't make sense to talk about who your favorite is (or does it? ), I wanted to choose my second favorite. Not evaluating them as songwriters, just singers, I still can't decide between Debbie and Chrissie. Besides, there are several female singers that should be there, and the name that immediately comes to mind is Pat Benatar. And if she is considered a rock singer too, Tina Turner must be there. At the end I think I choose Chrissie from that list.

It's sort of insulting to answer this thread because by doing so you are saying Stevie Nicks is your all time favorite. I think a better question would of been to ask people to rank them. But then again its serious rock legends and then goofy people. How can you put Grace Slick even in the same room as that Bangles chick.

Because it's a game, or at least, as I said before, those rankings, lists, etc., I never take them in a serious way. If I share them, it's just for fun. And I also have said many times, to choose a favorite doesn't mean the same as saying who is the artistically best (best artist, best singer, songwriter, whatever). It just means the one that is most liked. For example if you ask me to choose a favorite album, I'm not bothered if they put it on the same list Dark Side of the Moon, Rumours, Thriller, Appetite for Destruction and Like a Virgin. I see it just as a game, not a Nobel prize contest.

And compared to so many posts I've read on these forums, by different ledgies, to say that this one has an insulting question, it makes me laugh a little, I must admit. Just relax.

Yes, it would probably be impossible to fill all twelve boxes with the most fitting people. The missing people I thought of were Wendy O. Williams and Dale Bozzio. But I'm not sure who would be replaced. I'm hardly familiar with Sandy Denny; wasn't she more of a folk singer?

And other than Stevie, my next favorite would either be Debbie Harry or Grace Slick. Slick's 1984 album Software is really interesting.

Well….as a performer I’d say Janis Joplin….obviously (the inspiration for Stevie). Created the template for female rock performers.
As a songwriter- Belinda Carlisle and Patti Smith.
But as an overall fave from this list…Debbie Harry. Blondie were frickin awesome….and Harry was a babe. So iconic in her persona.
But….id like to have seen Alanis Morissette here. Amazing songwriter, amazing voice, great person (though I haven’t met her). And if you’re going to include Sandy Denny- how the f**k can you miss off Carole King???? Absolute GOAT

Susanna Hoffs deserves more respect.

I'm sorry but she does not deserve to be in the same category as many of these rock legends. I am not saying she cannot sing or perform. Most of her biggest hits were covers or written by someone else like Prince. Not saying she is not talented.
Walk Like An Egyptian
Manic Monday
Hazy Shade of Winter

Most of the Go Go's hits were not written by Belinda Carlisle. They were written by the group's guitarist. She also did not write her biggest solo hits either. I do not think she is the greatest singer but the songs were recorded and delivered to her. All she did was add her vocals over the tracks. Rick Nowels wrote lots of her stuff. Not even remotely in the same league as the other women. Its insulting really.
I loved it on Madonna's Blond Ambition tour documentary where her back up singers would purposely annoy Madonna and keep banging their chest to sing like Belinda in rehearsal. That was one of the funniest moments of the entire 1990s decade.

Seriously though. Why not include Madonna or Janet Jackson on this list too

That's right. And in the same way Karen Carpenter and Carly Simon are missed off too. And if Madonna and Janet were considered, definitely Whitney and her stunning voice should be too.

Just in case to clarify better, this list isn't mine. I said in the first post This post just appeared; yes it appeared in my Facebook without me having asked for it. It often shows me posts related to music—rock, pop, etc.—from groups or pages I don't even know (many times with fake upcoming concerts). The FB algorithm sends them based on my interests, searches, etc. But some, like this one, catch my attention or make me laugh.

WTF? Is this supposed to be a Fleetwood Mac board? 8 Posts and no Christine F*****g McVie? She had more talent in her rhythm pinkie than half these broads.

Chrissie Hynde,
for her quirky rock style.
Her fringe ..
Her fabulous voice..and the fact that she wrote lots of Pretenders big songs.
And never changing, but in a good way.
