Default Stevie Sound City Letter

Stevie posted a letter that she sent to her immediate family just before the release of Buckingham Nicks on her Instagram a few days ago. Here is the text of the letter.

Well, here I am - once again at the “famous” Sound City Recording Studio. I am getting very tired of sitting around listening to 12 hours of music per day. Oh well, I know it will pay off in the end, and when I am sitting in my small but luxurious Beverly Hills home overlooking my small but tasteful pool that is totally secluded, where I can sun in the nude and tan my entire fat body while waiting for my plastic surgery leg lift - it will all be worth it. Otherwise, everything here is just “peach-y”.

I hope that all of my little family is doing fine and not working too hard. I am sure that dad is already beautifully tan and lythe - making those gorgeous blue grey eyes even more sparkling than they usually are. How sickening that he looks better than I do at 47(?) and I’m only 25. (Give me a break, Dad!)

Speaking of being almost 25 - I have decided that we should set aside the entire month of May to celebrate the fact that I am now 1 quarter of a century old. A new landmark like this should not simply be passed over as yet another birthday, but should include a gala celebration. I shall leave it to the three of you to plan it. By the way, presents will be accepted any time after the first of May - no C.O.D’s please.

Moving right along - I just want to say that I certainly do miss you all, and wish you could be here to hear some of this stuff. By the way - Dad and Chris - that rock and roll tune that you both liked (“Baby Baby, don’t treat me so bad”) with the fancy guitar work is almost finished and Lindsey may go down in history as one of “greats” in guitar playing. It really is quite amazing.

Well, no more news as of yet - so much love to you all - and hold good thoughts about this thing.

I love you,
Stevie

It's revealing that her mom as far back as 1972 (73?) says Stevie is spoiled and lazy. Complaining about sitting around while other people work their tails off to make the record. No wonder having to show up on time and do interviews and publicity and what not after joining Fleetwood Mac felt to her like "joining the Army".

I'm always glad to find music old places, like Sound City at 15456 Cabrito Rd, Van Nuys, are still there. They are cultural heritage. Not only BN and the FM '75 were recorded there. Caribou, Double Vision, Nevermind, Damn the Torpedoes, Crimes of Passion, Precious Time, and many more. I would have liked to take a photo there like the one I took at 2200 Bridgeway, Sausalito.

To be honest I first read the letter here and part of me was suspicious it was real. When I saw the actual letter and the explanation how her mother kept it her entire life. Very touching. I found a box of letters I wrote to my mother when she passed too.

I felt guilty about finding it suspicious but its not how a typical 25 year old talks to their parents. This is like exhibit A of when Paul Fishkin said "She was going to be a superstar or a nobody. There was nothing in between."
Its really fascinating in her prediction how Lindsey was going to be a famous guitarist. She almost mocks Sound City for being "famous." She is looking down high a top a perch writing this. Remember back in the 1990s Stevie revealed parts of her journal on the NicksFix and almost every page ended with "walk like a queen." She really writes this letter as if she is already a superstar. She wants the entire month of May to celebrate he birthday. I completely understand most of this letter is tongue and cheek. We get nothing about worry how she will pay the rent or any of her struggle that she likes to talk about during this period. She provides no detail in her life except she is at a famous recording studio, Lindsey is going to be famous, and she wants a birthday month in her honor. I would not say its arrogant. I think it was premonition she knew she was going to be a star. This is why the Paul Fishkin comment came to mind right away.

I am sorry if I misidentified the source. You are right.

That letter really doesn’t show Stevie in the best light. I am really surprised she posted it.

Something about it doesn’t sit well with me. I have to wonder if she found OLD, BLANK Studio City paper tucked away in her vault and thought it would be cute to write a fake old letter and post it online. To me, it seems the voice is not a 25 yr old Stevie- it sounds like modern day Stevie waxing poetic & making bizarre comments. (Laying naked, fat in BH, her birthday gifts…etc).

I don’t know…. It just seems strange. Is it just me or did anyone else sense something off?

Also, I assume she meant “no IOU’s” not “C.O.D’s”. Because why would anyone refuse cash on delivery?

Yes he said that at 0:30. This made me want to watch it again, after a long time. Funny to hear about the Mirage sessions at 22:40 Stevie wanted to let Fleetwood Mac Know that the band was still a priority. It’s the narrator who said that, so I think that could be more his conclusion than a real Stevie statement. But she did say she didn't mention Bella Donna while recording with the band so as not to hurt them. Didn't she say in another interview that she gave her album to Lindsey and he snubbed her?

And at 29:50 the narrator completely ignored Behind The Mask when he said It would be their last album together (with Fleetwood Mac) for more than a decade, talking about the Tango. So unfair how he (or she?) wanted to erase that album from the band history.

She also embellished that on her 24K Gold Tour and told the story how dedicated she was to the Mac to keep flying back and forth to France during her solo album stint. What she does not tell people is that band was contractually obligated for another album with Warner. Had it not been contractually obligated I doubt many of them would have went into the studio together. Yes she was a loyal soldier but the band really had no choice.

I wish they would have kept the part in the segment about near overdoes on the road. That part was in the promo but was yanked in the final product. I believe I am right this time that it was Paul Fishkin that said that.

On Fleetwood Mac Behind The Music they do not spend any time on Bob Welch and he is purposely cut off the back of the Heroes album. It was recording during the lawsuit. However how petty that someone in the band (probably Mick) purposely requested Bob be eliminated and they say his name once I believe.

COD is not about DELIVERING cash LOL. It means the delivery driver expects you to pay the shipping costs (in cash or check) for the package he is bringing you at the time that he brings you the package. It allowed people to send a package to someone and have the recipient pay the postage (directly to the postman or delivery man when he showed up at their door). So she's telling her family to not be cheap and to pay to send her gifts at their own expense. (and yes she was being jokey about it).

I think it shows her EXACTLY how she is.... not a care in the world about mundane trivial things like bills and rent and such.. her mother was right when she said Stevie was spoiled.. she was. Her father paid for everything and she knew she could charm him into doing so. Her boyfriend (Lindsey) did everything to make their songs radio-friendly and worked out arrangements and all that.... she's always just found people/men to do the heavy lifting so she could just waltz in and do the fun parts. It's not shocking at all that to her joining FM and having to actually show up for meetings and rehearsals and press interviews and all that felt like "joining the Army". She absolutely thought of herself as a star and totally acted like one from very early in life. (Madonna too). Those who have commented that with the passing of her mother she lost the one person who would really tell her when she was too much were right. I have a cassette of an old interview from the very late 70s or very early 80s where Stevie talks about being a teenager and wanting a pair of expensive sandals and her mother telling her no because she could buy 3 pairs of sandals for the price of the 1 pair she wanted. So Stevie went to her father and asked him for the money and he gave it to her to get the pricey ones she wanted, and her parents had a fight about it and didn't talk to each other for a few days because her mother felt her father was spoiling her. Stevie didn't care.

She seems overly flattering, almost flirty, towards her father in this letter which hits a bit creepy frankly. And yeah who talks about laying around sunning themselves in the nude to their parents and siblings....

Yes you are right and I also wish more had been included about that. But Stevie is verrrrrrry controlling about her public image.

Hi Reebokandlace,

Just for your information, "C.O.D" means that when the parcel is delivered to you, you have to pay for the delivery postage charges!
