Default Stevie replaced by Sting

https://consequence.net/2023/10/bill...24-tour-dates/

Billy Joel and Sting Announce 2024 Shows Together: See the Dates
Billy Joel and Sting will share top billing for a pair of “one night only” concerts in Tampa and San Diego in 2024.

The classic rock convergence takes place at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on February 24th and San Diego’s Petco Park on April 13th. Although Billy Joel and The Police frontman were contemporaries in the ’80s, the shows will mark their first time co-headlining together.

Tickets for the Tampa show will go on sale Friday, October 20th via Ticketmaster. Seats for the San Diego date will go up for grabs on Friday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster, with a Live Nation pre-sale occurring two days earlier on Wednesday, October 25th (use access code VOCALS).

The tour coincides with Joel’s final run of performances at his long-running Madison Square Garden residency. Find tickets to The Piano Man’s remaining dates here.

Meanwhile, Sting will wrap his ongoing 2023 world tour before hosting several shows with orchestral accompaniment in cities like Philadelphia and San Francisco in early 2024. Grab your seats here.

In 2023, Joel toured the country on a shared marquee with Stevie Nicks as part of the “Two Icons, One Night” event. Check out our recap of the opening night here.

Cue the conspiracies about a FM tour of some kind…

Wow! Thank you for sharing this. I wonder if Sting sells tickets. I know The Police Reunion Tour did great.
Stevie has that rescheduled date with Billy in March. But this totally threw off my prediction that she’d keep playing with Billy through 2024.

Mick: Stevie are you available next summer?

And so, it begins.

My prediction: Fleetwood Mac is planning a short farewell tour in late 2024. Stevie will take some time off after her February/March 2024 dates, then head into rehearsal for the Fleetwood Mac tour that will run sporadically through 2025. Due to age and health, the tour will run a limited route similar to how Stevie has toured solo, with lots of time off. I've been saying this all along.

Has anyone seen the numbers of Stevie's solo shows? She's probably making more money on her own than being an opening act. She probably hates doing it too. These concert promoters put these gigs together for maximum profit. Stevie did not need to open for Rod Stewart either.

In 2011 Sting did sell tickets. The Lima concert was huge and great.

Really? These Billy shows are 60-80,000 seat facilities. Plus the advertising is co-headlining (even though she plays less time than Billy)

I don't think that Pittsburgh show last month sold out. It sold well but not sold out. I think the big market arenas are selling out. Even The Forum show now has seats left.

Those stadiums can hold 60k but the way the stage is set in the stadiums, uses only a smaller part compared to a football game. I don't think the proceeds are 50/50. So if 20k to 25k people show up and Billy gets 60% then Stevie can make more by selling out her own arena or make the same. She was taking the stage while it was still daylight out which is so against her grain since she is a nightbird. People still flocking to the seats, etc. If the venture was so profitable for her I doubt she would have broke ties. But we may never know.

Seems like these co-headlining things with big male stars never really work for her....
The one that worked was with The Pretenders and it worked coz SHE was the undisputed headliner.

Legends don't like second billing.

Pretenders were listed as Very Special Guest and Stevie was very generous by giving them over an hour to play. Their name was also on the ticket instead of 24 Karat Gold Tour and opening acts rarely get their name on the ticket.

I wonder if Billy's image on the video wall during the performance of SDMHA with Waddy on her solo tour will stay after the last Billy show in March!

I really think if Fleetwood Mac announced a stadium tour with Bonnie Raitt or Sheryl Crow it would be bigger than these Billy shows. Even if it was Neil, Mike, Rick, or Billy as the male singer/guitarist as long as Stevie's there and they know they'll hear FM songs with Mick and John.

That's true. She also only came out during his set to duet once out of the seven shows they've done.

And that was a good thing. That song did not work for the both of them. That sort of ballad would maybe work in a theater, not a football stadium. Stadiums are the worst places for concerts.

What about that short tour with Don Henley? Seemed like after that her stock as a solo artist went way up.

The tour with Don Henley was awesome. It wasn't just singing one song, it was her and Don dueting on several of both their songs. This was one of my favorite concert tours of hers.

One of mine too. I was in the second row and tix for that were maybe ~$100 (with a special gift - a pen set one that said Stevie Nicks and one that said Don Henley). Those were the days before the outrageousness that prices are now.
