That’s what drives me nuts about that entire incident. Nobody worldwide knew anything about it (except that some people at the actual concert noticed something “weird” happening) until Stephen Davis wrote it up in Mick’s 1990 book. Nobody else in the band had ever talked about it or probably even remembered it until it was in print, and the print version is never consulted (except possibly by Villavic!). Mick/Stephen only said in the book that Lindsey had been hitting the bottle and was playing deliberately out of tune on some things and then pulled off some shenanigans during “Rhiannon”: pulling his stage jacket up over his head like chiffon, flicking his foot at a crouching Stevie during her witch dance, and doing something very unclear with tossing his guitar in her direction. Mick talked about it again that year when he appeared on Graham Nash’s TV interview show, and Mick stuck to the Stephen Davis story.

Somehow, out of that, it grew into this violent psychodrama of throwing heavy equipment at poor Stevie and kicking her and going completely off the rails, and the story is so third-hand and fourth-hand and fifth-hand by now that it’s all you hear about in every comment section under every video.

On the old newsgroup, someone in the audience popped in to tell everyone what he saw: he remembers Lindsey being a little drunk and acting nutty. In rock and roll?! Gosh, who would have thought?

I've also heard that Christine threw a chair at Stevie once. And that everyone but Mick was pretty violent at one time or another. (My source is pretty good, but I don't want to spread stuff like that because I didn't see it for myself)

Yes, I think I have posted it in the past. Just in case here is again. This is what Mick wrote (Tusl tour) in his first book, it doesn't exactly say Lindsey threw a guitar to Stevie, but it may be in another book:

In mid-March we flew off to New Zealand to play in front of sixty thousand fans in Auckland. The show also went out live over the radio to the rest of the country. By then, the exhaustion of constant travel began to set in, and we were all pretty brainfried. Lindsey hit the old scotch bottle a little too hard before the concert, and halfway through the performance he snapped like a guitar string tuned ten octaves too high. First I noticed that he was playing out of tune. Then he started to clown around and mimic Stevie while she was dancing around the stage. Then, while she was hunched over, upstage of Lindsey, during her "Rhiannon" performance, he stopped playing and pulled his jacket over his head in a grotesque imitation of her pose. At that point he lost all control, playing anything except "Rhiannon," laughing like a madman.
Then he started to kick Stevie while she was trying to salvage the number. Sixty thousand people were watching! Lindsey would flick his foot at her and Stevie would shy away, trying to cover up his stoned-out behavior to save us all from dying of embarrassment. The rest of the band could only look at each other in disbelief.

The show finally over, we stumbled into the stadium's rugby changing rooms, where we were dressing. There would be no encore that night: we were all freaked out. I could hear the crowd screaming for more as Christine McVie stormed into the room, utterly hell-bent, and made straight for Mr. Buckingham, who was slumped miserably on a bench. Lindsey stood up, and Chris smacked him crack! right in the face. Then she threw her drink at him for good measure. "Don't you ever do this to this band again," she shouted. "Ever! Is that clear?" Then she stormed out again.

Silence. Then someone pulled on my sleeve to tell me I had to go on live radio ta say a few words and I'm completely traumatized! They shoved me into a trailer and started to ask questions. I dreaded talking about the incident with Lindsey, but it turned out they either didn't notice it or thought his behavior was part of the act, or just a joke. All credit went to Stevie, who had kept her dignity and salvaged the show, and Christine and Lindsey didn't speak to each other for a week afterwards.

From what I heard it was during the Tango sessions when Chris was trying to get her attention when she was staring at the stairs.

And somehow Lindsey "flicking his foot" playfully (but drunkenly and inappropriately) at Stevie has become "Lindsey KICKED Stevie".

Perhaps the "chair he threw at her" was from a Lego set?

In Christine's defense, I'd have a hard time not throwing running chainsaws at her.
