He's already mentioned that he's working on a new album. There will be a more formal announcement when it's ready for release.

I'd like new Lindsey music this year. September 17 will be 2 years since "Lindsey Buckingham". Maybe Stevie will get an album out before him ![]() |

Some of the remasters are quieter. But I think that needed to be done to make them sound more dynamic and less mushy, which happens when the sound levels are too loud and clipped. I think they did a great job with Street Angel and TISL, which are now great for headphone listening.

I finally got my Amazon delivery last week and have already listened to every CD. After all these years of complaining that Stevie hasn't released enough music in her career I realized that I am wrong. There is a lot of songs here. It's very nice to own her catalog and have it all in one box because I gave away most of her CD's to a friend a long time ago. Funny thing is I cannot tell which songs have been remastered and that is because I haven't heard so many of these songs in such a long time so they all sound fresh to me. There was only one song where I was like, "WTF is this?" That turned out to be God's Garden. I still like the songs I always liked, loved most of the ones I always loved and despised the same ones I always hated. Two of the songs I never really cared for, I Will Run To You and Two Kinds of Love actually sound good to me now. I've yet to listen to any of this thru headphones. Perhaps I will hear some remixes then.

Did anyone go for the vinyl set?
It's amazing. Rock A Little and OSOTM have been out of print for decades on vinyl. OSOTM had a very limited run anyway as it was released at the height of the CD age. And of course Street Angel, TISL and IYD never had vinyl releases. Neither did the material recorded for her first hits package (Timespace) or most of the rarities in this set (though some have appeared in various forms over the years, RSD, soundtracks, etc.). All that said... Street Angel is a revelation on vinyl. Some of the songs are still cringe ("forgotten chimpanzees" are still "forgotten chimpanzees," no matter the format), but the great songs on the album are GREATER on vinyl with this remaster. The first disc of the 2-LP Street Angel set is particularly good... "Blue Denim," "Greta," "Listen to the Rain"... they all sound spacious, punchy and clean. TISL has some issues with mastering on vinyl, especially the stuff Sheryl worked on. The analog warmth and increased dynamic range really enhance deep bass, and "Candlebright" gets a but boom-y as a result. There's also some sibilance on "Sorcerer." But the rest of the record shines. "Too Far From Texas" is especially fun; sounds like dropping the needle on an 80s country hit. In Your Dreams is gorgeous. Dave Stewart is a fine arranger and this album is also engineered brilliantly. Definitely hearing some things in the space that I've never heard before; the violin on "Moonlight" always sounded synth-y to me on compressed digital files, but the LP really opens it up. If you're inclined to purchase and wondering about which record makes it worth it, it's In Your Dreams. The Rarities LP set is poorly packaged here, unfortunately... Three heavy LPs stuffed into one non-gatefold sleeve. But the LPs themselves sound terrific. Much like a "hits" package, the mastering can be inconsistent, with songs from different engineers with wildly varying instrumentation and styles, but what it lacks in coherence it makes up for in the pleasure of hearing some of these recordings that were originally analog for the first time on vinyl, or the first time in a long time ("Battle of the Dragon" and "Reconsider Me" really benefit sonically). I jumped on the latter releases and haven't listened to Rock A Little and OSOTM from this vinyl set yet. Bella Donna and Wild Heart are the same remasters already released on LP, and they're both great if you don't already have them. Even if you do, vinyl junkies will want these later releases. |
