Okay, don't hit me for this one....

Why is Stevie called La Nicks? Because she loves LaMer stuff?

LMAO

Seriously, it is an expression to use the French "La" before a woman's last name. It is just a manner of humor, that is all. it is said with humor and without derision.

I guess it's the same reason that Regis Philbin calls Susan Lucci "La Lucci" (Erica, All My Children).

Many of the celebrated flamenco singers and dancers seem to have "La" in front of their names as well— for example, La Macarrona,
La Argentina. I think that Stevie has a lot in common with flamenco artists, espcecially in her intensity, and her exploration of dark themes, and her allure.

The skirts and shawls remind me of flamenco as well, of course.

I thought it was because she lived in LA and someone's 'Cap Lock' key was broken when they typed in the letter "a"

I've always loved it. We've started calling teachers at school by La amongst ourselves....
