I’m with you….I still enjoy listening to Desert Angel. It would have been a smart idea to push it as a single and donate the proceeds but unfortunately in 1991 the “masses” were not into Stevie. |

If her record people had any clue, they would have released the song the same time Stevie sent her gift to the soldiers in Kuwait. It would have preceded the release of Timespace and gotten some airplay. It would not have been a huge hit but enough plays to make it a known song. Then people could have had more interest in Timespace. By the time Timespace was released it was the fall. The tour was over and the welcome home parades were a distant memory. She missed her mark on her dedication.

I put Desert Angel, Soldier's Angel, New Orleans all in a category of mine- enjoyed them at the time, no real lasting memory or endurance on my playlists. All songs came long after the time period they were meant to capture which was a huge marketing mistake. This does highlight an incredibly frustrating point of being a Mac and Stevie fan is such poor timing in the latter career vs impeccable timing on the classic albums. My case in point- reliable two year spreads between albums and tours became spotty after Mirage and Tango, which spelled the end of the classic lineup until 97, 2015 etc and then the other collapse in 2018. While they did record the swan song under Buck McVie, the ball dropping after the Dance and then sputtering through the Say You Will period effectively ended my interest in following them on the road. I won't even touch 2018

Desert Angel did not belong on a greatest hits. The song is an embarrassment and a skipper. Greatest Hits albums should not have bad songs on them. It was a wasted space. She should of put After Glitter Fades or Nightbird on the album instead. Those songs were actual top 40 hits. Loves a Hard Game to play should of been left off too.

1. A record company being greedy and pushing for a Greatest Hits album (Note: at the time artists who put out Greatest Hits packages were considered washed up). 2. Stevie fighting the record company for creative control that she could put her own touch on it. 3. Stevie yielding and agreeing to sing Jon Bon Jovi and Poison songs. 4. Stevie wanting to put a fresh and new "current" her own material on it. If Sometimes Its A Bitch was the first single from OSTOTM it would have charted. Bon Jovi's limelight was so strong in 1989. By 1991, the grunge music was the current trend. Her record company was behind the trends. At least when Heart was marketed in the mid 80s, it worked because that Vixen look was the trend. Her reps were behind the times. I wonder what a Stevie Nirvana collaboration would have sounded like. Smells like a Welsch Witch ![]()

I’m glad “Sometimes It’s a Bitch” and “Love’s a Hard Game” are on TIME SPACE. In both instances, the conviction of her voice transforms generic songs into something distinctive. She believes what she sings. So, even if Modern Records might have forced certain collaborations upon her, she made the most of them.

Hi Aleuzzi- Back when Timespace was released, I liked anything and everything Stevie did- she could do no wrong in my chiffon covered eyes. Oh my how that has changed with age and the benefit of hindsight. After the couple of Petty covers early in her solo career, Stevie really, I mean really, needed to give up the idea of doing cover songs. So many terrible choices left excellent songs lingering in the "vault" with many still there to this day. Even 24 K which was a vault album, featured absolutely dreadful covers. Bitch and Hard Game are in the same realm nowadays- dreadful songs given up by popular artists of the day which contributed to the idea that Stevie could no longer write a great hit song. Don't get me started on Cry Wolf and I still need someone

Having said all this, her Timespace Covers are probably the only ones I actually like. I always liked a rocking Stevie and I think that is the reason. Btw, I better not talk too loud because Michelle loves I still miss someone ![]()

To add. I knew Louise Goffin and Marilyn Martin released versions of Stevie's songs before Stevie but I only recently found out about Think About It. A brilliant Ledgie posted a thread with a 70s version from Rusty Wier. So amazing. Last edited by UnwindedDreams; 03-13-2022 at 01:54 PM.. |

Actually her worst "other persons" song is Everyday. That song is nails down a chalkboard for me. Its cut from the same cloth as Talk To Me. Bubble gum pop, shot sentence verse, rinse and repeat chorus.
Part of the allure of Stevie Nicks is her epic writing. Her words. Her emotions. Her descriptions. When that is missing, its pretty much an empty shell of shrill.

J Brown- Especially "find yourself somebody new"... I do get the appeal some of us would see in the song- I enjoyed it at the time as well, as I did with everything she did. The point is around her doing covers and the poor choices in material. I will add that this only applies to Rock a Little onwards. Prior to that she was always delightful.
