This cannot even compete wiv the other stories, but it is germane to the Mirage tour. I was living in San Francisco in Fall 1982. A friend of mine, a co-worker, went to one of the Oakland shows. The next day when I asked her how it was she told me, "All the young girls were screaming for Stevie." I understand and read now that Stevie was at best lukewarm about touring that year. Her star was ascending and I'm sure her loyalties were at times torn.

I really enjoyed this older thread. What cool stories. I remember reading in Cream magazine exactly what David pointed out. The cancelled shows were because Stevie was "sick."
The story about meeting Stevie getting into the limo with top hat and stuff animals was truly incredible.
Although there are a few errors in reporting. The Mirage concert was on HBO, not Showtime. We never had Showtime and HBO was our only premium channel in those days. I would scan the HBO booklet that came every month looking again for the concert. I would tape the concert by putting a tape recorder up to the TV At age 13 I even wrote HBO corporate offices asking them to please air the concert again. I got a very nice letter back from them too.
So that was my Mirage tour story even though I was not there

Is this 1982? That Lindsey haircut doesn’t seem the one he looked in the concert video, nor the album cover. But the short is from Lindsey’s channel so it should be. Though since he has shown some “memory lapsus” it could be another year.

After the tour, they released the Mirage tour video (which didn't include the entire concert). I recall that most of the reviews commented on the Sisters of the Moon performance. All noted that Stevie was in such bad shape that she couldn't finish the song, so Lindsey had to step in and sing it. This never made any sense to me; as I understood it, that was a planned arrangement of the song. It had nothing to do with Stevie being too tired! The reviews neglect to say that Stevie finishes the song (and the show) just fine.

This comes to mind because I've been listening to a few Mirage era concerts, and Lindsey sings that verse in every performance. How could it be that she would lose it before that verse at every show? It just goes to show how the media really defaulted to assuming the worst.

Granted, those assumtions (spelling right? I wish spell check was here!) sometimes bear some truth, but not in this case.

I always thought that performance of Sisters was edited together from two nights.... And that some of her speaking in tongues was dubbed over whatever incoherence she sang on the night.

Yes that performance has a horrible "edit" right as she gets to the mic for the last verse and then speaking in tongues. Unless the edit is hiding something else but its a blatant edit. Lots of other edits too but Sisters has the most obvious. The song actually skips its so bad.

This is exactly what I thought, when I first watched "Sisters Of The Moon" many years ago! It was not a subtle edit at all. "Blatant" is the perfect adjective to be used here, unfortunately! Along with the other edits.

I sometimes take the "continuity" in recordings for granted, until I realise how really important it is!

The first time I watched this concert was on a old local broadcast tv channel. Can't remember the date but it was when I was starting to become a fan and I had already seen the Gypsy video. By that time I didn't know much about the band, I had just learned their names and I didn't know if the McVies were a couple or siblings.

I liked the concert very much, but I remember thinking... Why does Stevie's voice sound so different than on the radio? Why does her hairstyle in that shot with blue light during Sisters look different from the rest of the show?

I was watching the US Festival footage again recently. No edits just raw and true performance. I have never seen a band so high and stumbling and bumbling around. I can imagine they partied all day and were last to take the stage. Besides the mix up during the Chain breakdown, Stevie botches Dream's, she is on the side of the stage when she realizes she is supposed to be singing for the "chain will keep us together." She thinks its funny and is laughing at her miscue as she runs towards the mic. There are other noticeable mishaps but the band recovers. Less than half of their US performance is on youtube so imagine what is out there. Its fun to watch and I much prefer this than edits, or fake close ups, or lip syncing Not sure why but a year later Stevie overdubbed her 3 US festival songs that were played on the radio national broadcast (Outside the Rain, Stand Back, and SDMHA). I think she sounded better in the live performance. But we need to be thankful for what we got because that US Festival is them at their peak substance abuse as a band. Stevie's US Festival appearance was equally wild with her being lost in the crowd during Stand Back and her doing a windshield wiper performance for How Still My Love let alone telling the crowd she is going to personally hand out a copy of the Wild Heart to all attendees like Girl Scout Cookies

Is it in YT? I found this (not Vevo) one. Stevie's face at 7:19 says it all. And yes, she runs behind Lindsey for the Keep Us Together part. But I read the setlist and Don't Stop was between The Chain and Dreams, and here is it after, so this video is edited too. Did they cut the part you say where she botches Dreams? I see her voice cannot be heard when she starts singing it, is that what you mean? Cause that may not be necessarily her fault.

She is feeling no pain at 7:19. But I was more referring to 9:15 where she wondered off and starts laughing when she realizes she was supposed to be singing. She runs back to the mic only to put the tambourine on her head like a crown
Its a very messy performance but I love it. Everyone sort of stops playing at 8:00 and Mick has to try and get everyone back on track.
