Both good points, but I mostly agree that when Christine left, they didn't replace her with two new members and make a statement about the evolution of the band and moving on to the next phase blah blah.

I suspect a few people here are going to be very angry at how little airtime in this interview will be devoted to Lindsey, or his firing. So those people speculating/imagining what the members of FM will say about Lindsey are going to really be enraged by the interview. Well, more enraged, anyway, since nothing FM says would matter to them.

1. Lindsey was fired, he didn't voluntarily quit the band 2. Because he was in the band for 43 years, not 5 months 3. Because he was the musical director of the band 4. Because the rest of the band (especially Mick and Stevie) kept on describing the band as "a family". That's why many of us thought it would be more than just "a simple interview to promote the new group" But hey, I'm more than happy they couldn't care less about Lindsey! It just confirms what we all suspected about this so-called family. As long as they don't damage his solo work with their actions I'm more than happy to not listen to Stevie talk about Lindsey ever again.

She didn't say that. She said she didn't want to hear it. Understand the difference?
I've always been more of a CM/FM fan, but Lindsey is the ONLY one getting another dime out of me.

When Bob Welch moved on and Stevie and Lindsey came onboard, when it came time to promote a first tour/new material, would you expect that they would have devoted much press time to Bob's time in the band? Of course not, they would want you to meet Stevie and Lindsey and start getting stoked about their possible contributions. I just can't fathom why anyone would think that this piece would be about doing anything to explain/vindicate/whatever your particular agenda is, regarding Lindsey's absence from the band.

I agree that the last thing they will want to talk about is LB and how/why he left. They will want to sell the upcoming tour and the excitement over new members, and how they are all so excited about the tour.
I would expect the interviewer however to for example, ask Mike about Tom's passing, working with Tom for so long, and how he feels moving on to work with a new group. And you can't ask him about working in a new band without acknowledging that the only reason he's able to join this new band is because one of the old members left. The question will be how it's handled. Their PR people know they have to say SOMETHING to acknowledge the 800 pound gorilla in the room, and they will, with some very terse, well-rehearsed line, and then move on. And the PR flacks will have interrupted the reporter if he asks anything else (which of course may be edited out of the final piece). I'm guessing they will have John Blackstone interview them if it was done on site at the rehearsals. He's their go-to west coast guy for anything, and he's done interviews with Mick in LA and Maui for them (I can't recall if he did anything with BuckVie but wouldn't;'t surprise me). I would think a live interview (them in studio or them via remote) would be too risky, coz you know Gayle will for sure ask about LB.

It is not uncommon for someone on the west coast to be interviewed ahead of time by a show that airs live on the east coast. Since the band is rehearsing for the tour, it would be too much hassle to fly them all in for a 12 minute live piece. But a profile taped in advance, interspersed with footage of them rehearsing, is ideal. As for a live interview being too risky, that's funny. If they want to shut a reporter down, all they have to do is say "Ask Lindsey." Notice he hasn't stepped up for any interviews, either, live or otherwise. I don't think Lindsey is afraid, and I don't think FM is afraid. But, if it makes you feel better to think that FM is afraid of Gayle King, go for it. Oh, that's right, Lindsey isn't talking because he's planning to sue, according to rumors a few posters are spreading. Well, when Lindsey officially sues FM, then I guess we'll learn more details then. |
