Default should I wait for the rerelease of Tusk?

Hey all,
So yeah, I have the Dance, Rumours, FM, and Tango, but I want to get Tusk. I was going to ask for it for Christmas, and then I saw on amazon.com that there's a Tusk that has no current release date. When this comes out I will want it; is it worth buying the old? If this version's going to come out in the year 2010 (as one site said!) I may as well. Is it worth the wait?

The new version (as last reported) will be out Feb. 4, 2003 (in the US). I'd say it's really only worth waiting to get the new one if the new version has any bonus tracks not available elsewhere on it but none of us know what they are yet though I'm sure someone will post them here the minute they are found out so keep your eyes peeled.

If it's to be believed that the re-issues will be double discs (as one article reported... does anyone have that handy?), there's sure to be some cool bonus material.

I'd say buy Tusk now, and get the re-issue when it comes out. But that's just me... Tusk is my favorite album and I think you shouldn't live another 4 months without hearing it .

I guess it just depends on how badly you want it.
If you're not in a huge rush, it might be wise to wait for the remastered version in February, which will surely sound better, and will feature bonus tracks (therefore, more bang for your buck).

Plus, the CD version of 'Tusk' that's currently on the market, has the 4:39 single edit of "Sara" in place of the 6:26 album version, as well as a mix of "I Know I'm Not Wrong," which is different from the album version.

Get it now, there's no sense in waiting until February just to hear a few crappy live songs that we all know will be the "extras." We'll never hear demos or the like from the Mac, so get it now. Plus, it'll be cheaper if you get it now.

I'd get it now... You can find it for around $6.00 if you have a Record Exchange or even a Media Play (they sell used CDs) near by . That's how I got the majority of my CDs, yet I am still broke . lol

Good luck

Get it. Ditto exactly what Kate said. Buy it used and then use some gift certificates from Christmas to buy the rerelease.

EDIT: Also, since you dont have Tusk yet, and since it is such an amazing FM album, I strongly suggest you get it because it will easily keep you entertained for months.

Absolutely, get it now. Tusk takes time to "grow" on some people, but it's probably my fave Mac CD now. Try half.com, I've had great luck on that site.

thank you all! i think i will get it for christmas after all, as someone said, there'll be gift cards out the wazoo come february... assuming it's released on time. I should clear up that I'm not a new fan by any means, and have several tracks from it, including Sara (long!), Tusk (of course!), The Ledge, Beautiful Child, Not That Funny (on my Mirage video), Think About Me, and of course, the best song of all time, Brown Eyes. Heck, I have most of the album. But I uninstalled Kazaa and I want the whole darn thing!

I'd say go ahead and buy it, I've only ever seen it for 14.99 and that's pretty reasonable (and cheaper than the retail price for the double vinyl album when it was released 23 years ago! )

Yeah, Sara is edited but it's for the better. If it takes you a little longer to fall asleep you may want to download the long version should you buy this.

Tusk is kind of spotty (it contains more songs that are good rather than great), although it does contain some highlights. Lindsey's songs for the most part reek of "album filler" "link track" and "atmosphere" but some are quite good, the best of them being "The Ledge" "That's Enough For Me" "WHat Makes You Think You're The One" and of course "Tusk" which is their most unique song. "That's All For Everyone" is a nice atmospheric track and has some great harmonies and production but it never really goes anywhere. So there, you have about 10 great minutes of Lindsey on Tusk. You always end up wishing for true band performances on his songs, which stick out like a grossly deformed African Elephant amongst normal African Elephants.

Good news, Chris and Stevie are in top form. ALthough each of them have one or two duff tracks the albums stands up because of their contributions. "Over And Over" "Think About Me" "Brown Eyes" "Angel" "Sisters Of The Moon" "Never Forget" and "Storms" are about as essential as essential mac tracks get and it's worth having for these songs alone. Much of the rest is OK but sounds like filler. It's not the million dollar album they paid for. As a whole, none of these songs really sound like they belong together and it sounds like the work of 3 separate people rather than a band effort, making the equally diverse Heroes Are Hard To Find album sound like a carefully constructed conceptual piece.

These will sound like small complaints when you hear how good the handfull of really good songs are. Go ahead and get this one. A deluxe 2cd set will probably be something outrageous like 28 bucks like the Bowie and Who deluxe editions cost.

::slaps head in repeated fashion:: How could I forget to list SotM and Storms? These are two of my favorites! although, i don't prefer the album versions.

Default To buy or not to buy...Tusk

If you are on a budget and don't have to be a completist about your collection, check it out from the library, burn a copy and then wait until February for the reissue. It will save you 20 bucks.
