I get your enthusiasm. It's mine, too! But if she is singing on it, and I don't think she is, then her vocal should have been prominent. Even some background oohs and ahs, that thick, choral-like effect you hear on YMLF and Heroes are Hard to Find. Something audible and substantial!

Why would anyone in her right mind sing harmonies to a song deliberately mocking herself? It now transpires that for once she has shown some sense and discretion. I used to think that she was being selfish for refusing to record with Fleetwood Mac, but after listening to this undercooked (after 5 years of roasting!) song and reading the comments about its intent, it is crystal clear that it is Lindsey who is being childish and petty and needlessly provocative, and who has an inflated sense of his own position in the scheme of things. Not everyone wants to be "In His World." I wonder if his kids roll their eyes every time he breaks into one of his eternal chain of being speeches

I feel like being childish and petty myself and buying 24KG instead of BuckVie on June 9 I'd definitely rather to listen to All the Beautiful Worlds than this epitome of churlish and musically vapid smallmindedness. Poor John, I could almost feel the desperation as his bassline tries helplessly to counterpoint and to provide even a smidgen of variety to distract the listener from Lindsey's ping-ping-ping motif repeated over and over as if it were a motif from Die Walkure. But not even the greatest rhythm section can propel a song that has almost nothing going for it.

They had better have a Little Lies Part II there somewhere or BuckVie will tank even worse than Time. Thank goodness it is not going out under the Fleetwood Mac label. Tango is now officially the swan song of the Classic Mac.

Now I wish I could change my screen ID, darn.
I'm not saying In My World is brilliant or anything, but to suggest Stevie would elevate this project is a stretch at best. There were a couple of good songs on 24K, but the rest of it was drivel. "Starshine, you used to be silver, you used to make me shiver." Really? I could take or leave most of her SYW material. Most of what she's put out recently that was any good was written 30 years ago.

If we are lucky we'll get 1 song like that. I would put money on there's being no Murrows or Red Rovers here. My expectation has always been that this will be Lindsey doing his best to be Pop-Lindsey while retaining his sense of doing something new sonically. In My World succeeds on those terms.
Yeah, it's not going to bump I'm So Afraid or Red Rover off Christy's Favorite Songs in the Universe list, but it's a light, easy, breezy song. It's pleasant with some nice melodies and rhythm work. I much prefer this to DYMM. I can't stand most of his This is 40 songs either.

This is a one-time venture, it's not solo and it's not FM. Take all of this for what it is.... BuckVie. 😀

Tango was the last FM album with the classic line-up. I was talking about Stevie so I didn't see the need to clarify.

I'm not going out on a limb to say whether Stevie's vocals would have helped this boring song out or not.
But people slamming "24K" here is really not the subject. I enjoyed the hell out of that album and it got critical raves, for the most part. At Metacritic, the album has received a Metascore of 73 out of 100 based on 11 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews."

But that's besides the point.
We are discussing the new song, and bottom line is, it isn't very good IMO.

I liked his stuff on "SYW" except for "Come."
yeah we all have different tastes. i think Seeds and Screws are his best solo albums by far, better than Cradle. but Screws is uneven because it has a mixture of his 90s and 2000s stuff, it's actually 2 LB solo albums smashed into one. Seeds is perfect. all kinds of styles in a cohesive album.

i am a bit surprised how you can love Lindsey's stuff on Say You Will but not Gift of Screws? it's the same batch of songs! and a lot on Seeds is just a natural progression from GOS/SYW stuff. of course, if you don't like Come... then . it goes seamlessly with his other SYW stuff. (unless you like What's the World? i can't stand that one.)

I don't buy it, personally. The overall tone of this song is that of loss and sadness. It might well be about her, but I'd be more inclined to think the message is 'farewell, its sad you are no longer with us'. He also tells the person he's addressing they have a heart of gold. That's hardly a dig, is it?

Also, though they put this song together several years ago, there's very possibility the vocals were re-recorded with new lyrics. That wouldn't have been difficult for Lindsey to do at any time.
yeah, actually, i was wondering about that too. whether they rerecorded some of the lyrics to suit current band situation. especially since people who know much better than me are very sure that both LB and Christine sing blended in the chorus.

I think the song IS about Stevie and I don't think it's a dig. In fact, I think it is more charitable and wistful than I would expect about her, considering. There is affection and loss in the dancing, spinning, dreaming , singing.

As for having the time to re-record lyrics, considering Twist of Fate and Right Place to Fade, I don't think that would be a priority. Michele

If this song is about Stevie (and if it isn't, then Lindsey is teasing us by using lyrics he very well knows point to her), then I'm with those who find it wistful, not mocking.

I'm also with those who doubt Stevie ever listened to this song, much less let it deter her from working on a Fleetwood Mac project. However, even she did listen to the song, why would she be affronted? She loves it when Lindsey sings about her. It means she still means something to him and that he still thinks about her. After all, he's not still writing about Carol Ann...

As for my opinion of the song... I also am dismayed that it is not more "organic." I feared this would be the case - Lindsey is so enamored of his little gadgets and voice manipulators - he can't leave them alone. He has a woman working with him with a lovely voice, but he'd rather speed up his own and harmonize with himself (if Christine is there, she's buried). Plus, just as I couldn't stand the fake female "love grunts" in "Big Love", I can't stand them here. Happily, there are far fewer of them.

Please Lindsey, just give me a strong melody, your natural voice with Christine harmonizing, and some of your magnificent guitar playing... that's all I ask.

Still, I don't hate "In My World". The chorus is catchy and I like the sprightly guitar. Perhaps my expectations were unreasonably high after all the hype.

We know at least one song on the album isn't like this: "Sleeping Around the Corner." I love that one and if the rest of the songs are more like that, then I know I will really enjoy the album.

Some reviewers have expressed surprise also that the first single off 'Buckingham McVie' is a Lindsey track rather than a co-write/co-sung.

That being said, I like the song. I don't think it's likely the strongest track on the album. Maybe this is something of a "soft rollout" as they say....saving the bigger singles for releases #2 and #3?

That's what I'm thinking/hoping. Save the catchiest one for when the album drops.
