Thumbs up Long Way To Go

Long Way To Go is one of my favorite Stevie songs. This extended version is off the chain. The beginning sounds like theme music for a thriller or horror suspense movie. Her lyrics in this song are so raw and brutally honest. Many of Stevie's songs are about 2 experienced merged together like Edge of 17 is about John Lennon's death and the passing of her grandfather. The title of Long Way To Go was taken from her breaking up with Joe Walsh. But the song is about battling drug addiction. Joe Walsh stated that he feared one of them was going to die of a drug overdose if they stayed together.

High in my life
Obsessive was my love
Worth it was my time
you are fading out

Can I be of any help to you
Help ME , Help him (Joe) help her too

Its a real long way to go to say goodbye. (yes in the literal sense saying bye to Joe)
But is also a long way to go to get and stay clean
I thought we already did that - say goodbye....tried to get clean
Have fun - tell the world - the motto she lived by for so long
I can make it one more time - one more day sober

I would love to hear this live someday. Fantastic extended version here. Her writing on TOSOTM was so good. Its my third favorite album but second favorite for writing.
If you think this sounds a little like the Fixx's "One thing leads to another" there is a good reason. The Fixx's guitarist plays on the song.
Pure brilliance!

ask about the new record it's a deer caught in the head lights expression and " she has a new record ?

I love the other side of the mirror too it is so honest after Betty Ford i wonder what other songs were written during this time

Well Stevie did practice this song for the Street Angel tour but sadly she did not do it live. Welcome to the room Sara almost has a hidden meaning or you have to read between the lines. On TOSOTM Stevie is very direct and not worried about trying to hide meanings.
I would love to know who Two Kinds of Love is written about. I think part of it could be about Joe Walsh. She never mentions the name but writes "spoke to my famous friend last night, my third day up, its his second nighter." JUST WOW. Whoever this famous friend is loves to party. I interpret that line meaning staying up partying all night. I have seen Stevie describe Joe as a great temptation before.
Ohh my love is brutally honest too. Ghosts is such an autobiography of Stevie. Stevie said that everyone tells her she lives in the past so its the ghost of the past she lives in..
THANKFULLY she wrote this album before the klonopin fog kicked in. She really bounced back from Rock A Little for this record. The classic Stevie writer was back.

I agree, Long Way To Go is a solid, rocking song. Yes, as you say, many songs have been totally neglected. There was also a lot of lost time- Klonipin didn't help. Stevie often went back to the easy comfort of her Fleetwood Mac work, and even passed over her solo work for cover songs. I hope this tour includes a healthy dose of abandoned solo music, along with 24 karat gold and In Your Dreams selections.

Stevie will be culling from 31 songs. We all know her voice could never pull off 31 songs. Neither could mine. The benefit of touring with Fleetwood Mac is the built in voice rest time for Stevie. Stevie will have to be careful. Most people can't live in isolation, but with cold, virus and flu season coming, I hope Stevie will be cautious. Along with the thinning of the herd of songs, do you think she should eliminate Edge of Seventeen. at least the walk? If you were in the front row for the first time, would you be angry? Disppointed? It's a lot of money for those seats.

Stevie just got a ton of photos, courtesy of Herbert W. Worthington III. She will be sorting through that, plus practicing. I suspect Stevie will be plenty busy between now and the beginning of the tour.

^^^^^^^^^^YES. I said so in another thread too and think Stevie should absolutely eliminate the Edge walk. The length of the song should be about 9 minutes.

She said that she started writing it during the tour with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty and then finished it during her work and relationship with Rupert Hine.

I'm not into the Edge walk, but I do like the break it gives the song. I like the way she's singing and then she goes towards the audience and then when she finishes and gets back to her mic, it's really exciting, the pulse and rush of the song resuming. It's like everyone was distracted away from it and there was a lull and then the passion comes back with a great swell when she concludes the song.

So, I like the interlude, but it maybe could just last a minute while she does a half circle around the stage. It wouldn't need to last for as long as it takes her to shake all the hands. Michele
