I can't imagine any world in which you did not know that. I wanted to look smart.

When Lindsey backed out, they increased the tour dates and added the back up singers. Adding a guitarist, they did that on the Mirage tour, so that was nothing new. I don't remember if adding another percussionist was Lindsey's idea or not.
No, both Mick and Christine have always said that Lindsey wanted more musicians. No one said he wanted more back up singers.

Lindsey wanted more guitarists and, in keeping with that, he ended up having a guitar army on his first solo tour.

In the October 10, 1987 issue of Billboard Mick said:

Quote:
With Buckingham gone, two guitarists--Rick Vito and Billy Burnette--have been added to the touring lineup. Both players have known the other Mac members for years, and, according to McVie, “They fit in perfectly. Billy’s mainly playing rhythm, which is refreshing and really fills out the sound. When we talked with Lindsey about touring and augmenting the band, he was planning on having more people--maybe four guitarists and six percussionists.”
That's what he has always said on this subject.

Was he on more than GYOW, and Gypsy? Those are the only two that I've witnessed him playing on(on dvd - and Gypsy is a pretty quick glimpse!).

Did any of the other band members play on Make Me a Mask?
So Songbird...Fleetwood Mac song or Christine McVie solo song? The whole band isn't on the recording and certainly never live.

Good point. Of course, she didn't record it at home so she gets bonus points for that!

Great topic! While I love the Christine and Lindsey collaborations, let's be honest - they're basically Lindsey, guest starring Christine. Take Stevie off of Tango In The Night, for instance, and what have you got? Lindsey songs, and Lindsey songs with Christine's contributions.

When she came back to the band and was all excited about working with Lindsey, a big to-do was made about how they had written songs together - and all I could think was *groan* - we're gonna get a bunch of Christine McVie songs with none of Chris' soul in them - sterile, technological compositions with Chris' vocals and a bunch of chirping, dinging sounds and overdone guitar.

Good songs though they may be, Christine's essence is completely swallowed up by Lindsey's when they work together.

Songbird just has Christine playing piano and singing. The Ledge has other instruments besides guitar, and Lindsey played them. It's not like Christine played bass or drums on Songbird, instead of allowing the other band members to. That's the difference.

No, sorry I'd have to disagree. On record Christine is accompanied by Lindsey's acoustic guitar. He also accompanies her live.

btw, some would argue Yesterday is a Paul McCartney solo song...I wouldn't. It's on a Beatles album so its a Beatles song.

Sorry, I really dont get what you are trying to say. Strip Stevie's songs and you are left with Lindsey's plus these...

Everywhere
Mystified
Little Lies
Isnt It Midnight
You and I part 2

I can appreciate how the comment applies to You and I part 2....but the rest? really? I think Lindsey did a stunning job to enhance those songs and elevate them to true greatness. Even Mystified (which is otherwise a fairly feeble song) is polished and turned into something of beauty. The essence of those songs is still Christine McVie even though they have his signature touches and fit in with the sonic experience of Lindsey's songs. Credit where credit is due...a great job Lindsey.

Jmn3 is the one who asked whether Songbird is a solo song or a FM song, because she was the only one playing on it. If she's not the only one playing on it, then it's not a solo song.

Agreed.. Her essence is so apparent that I get goosebumps when I hear their collaborations. The Smile I LIve For.. I see why she wanted him on the guitar.

I said the whole band isn't on it and that would be a fact.

Christine's four songs on Tango are so important to the vitality of that record. Lindsey's songs might out number hers, but hers weigh a lot there. Without them, the album would sound cold and paranoid.

Both Lindsey AND Christine overplay his contributions to her songs. He is an important producer, but her songs in demo form are usually fleshed out and well-crafted, before he even gets to them. And, in the case of Everywhere, I prefer the demo!

According to folks here, Lindsey is playing guitar on Songbird, so it's not a solo song. Lindsey plays all the instruments on The Ledge, and none of the other members play on it, so it is a solo song, just like Make Me a Mask. But they're on a FM album, so they're considered FM songs.

I'm glad Christine and Stevie don't work that way. That's not a diss on Lindsey, if doing that made him happy and kept him in the band, that's great.
