This is dating me, but I remember when Duran Duran broke off into Arcadia and Power Station. Both records were amazing and different. This could be definitely along those lines.
I loved Duran Duran.. I haven't heard the new album. I think I'm going to listen to that today.

I was more partial to Arcadia because Simon was singing. Great stuff though.

I saw them in Nashville in July. It was a good show(the light show was FANTASTIC). But, at the end of the day, I realized that I really only knew the hits, and wished I'd saved my money.

I guess that's the definition of "casual fan"...

So the jingles on the tambourines weren't taped down, like someone we know?

B. Say You Will was definitely missing Christine but it was better than Behind the Mask.
C. The new album will be even better and it will be without Stevie and that will make it obvious that she is the weak link in Fleetwood Mac. Frankly, Christine McVie songs are the best examples of the Fleetwood Mac sound, not Stevie. Lindsey and Christine can still create magic. Maybe she knows she can't compete with what Lindsey and Christine did artistically.

Further proof - Tango in the Night. It's Fleetwood Mac's 2nd biggest selling album around the world. It sold 11 million copies. and only 3 million were inside the states. The weakest charting single, Seven Wonders, coming from Nicks. What did she really offer on that album - a great vocal on Seven Wonders, and a nice vocal on Little Lies. That's it. She didn't really participate in the album they had been working on for years.

As far as sales go and the tour, she won't make a difference if the music is good, which it will be. It will not sale a lot anyway. Tom Petty just had a number one album and it's still not Gold. Pathetic. They don't need the money, so small venues aren't going to matter that much to anyone but Mick, who is a money-grubbing whore. The album is for artistic purposes.

I want Stevie to make 24K Gold part 2, but I think if she were smart, she better participate in a big way with the new album. Not participating will only hurt her legacy. We all know that Lindsey and Christine have already created a masterpiece and Stevie is just going to make herself look bad. Even though it only may hurt the album, Stevie needs to be part of a masterpiece.
thank you - you so eloquently make great points for why they need to release this album without her!

exactly.

thank you for the voice of reason! that whole other thread about how FM album without Stevie would be just LB solo is a great example of fickle fans trying to muddy the clear points Jondalar expressed here!

basically -
  • if FM cares about their artistic legacy, they'll release 4/5 album and tour it.
  • if they care more about Stevie's individual legacy than collective FM legacy, they'll wait for her, cobble on a few of her songs like they did for Tango, and run in the ground points from SYW and EP that FM is not anymore a whole but just sum of individual parts. their overall artistic legacy will be cemented with yet another non-cohesive stitched together album.

In Ken's book he states that they usually had Stevie's mic turned down for the tamborine.

I just remember reading(a million years ago) that her jingles were taped down.

And I've enjoyed that thought for a million years...

He just said they couldn't use them because they weren't in time.

For what it's worth, I'm not so sure that they are still taped down now. When I'm up front it seems I can hear her tambourine as she's using it. Perhaps she took a tambourine class at a local community college.
