I wish the band would put Richard in charge of some sort of band official site or archive. He had some really great ideas and the stuff he was thinking of-- videos of various people around the band reminiscing and sharing stories, and sharing photos, etc. were terrific. Never happen, but think how cool it could be.

I've been asked three or four times in the past few days about this issue on my blog. Each time Stacy liked that post. Half an hour ago, she replied to my most recent one. Thought I'd give you a heads up.

As for changing your avatar, again, it's not too tricky. When you're on The Ledge, you'll see the menu bar thing up top which has options like 'User CP', 'FAQ', 'Members', etc. Click on User CP. That's your control panel, which allows you to make changes to your account.

You will now see a sidebar on the lefthand side of your screen with various headings like 'Settings & Options', 'Private Messages' and 'Subscribed Threads'. Under 'Settings & Options', there are links to where you can edit your signature, your avatar, and other account details. Simply click on 'Edit Avatar', the fifth option down.

You now have the option to change your avatar. If there's an image you want to use on the internet or on your computer, you first need to get it to the correct size. You'll see that the instructions say that it cannot be bigger than 75 by 75 pixels, or 19.5kb. I use Photoshop to edit something but I don't know if you have or use that software. If you do, simply open the image and crop it to the correct size.

If you don't already have an image on your computer, find one and save it. You need it to be a SQUARE so double-click the image, and it should open up into software which previews the image, and allows you to edit it. You need to crop it so that it's a square. Then go to this website and click browse. Add your edited image.

https://transloadit.com/demos/image-...esize-to-75x75

Scroll down the page to the heading 'Result Files', and it will have made your file the correct size. Click 'download' and save it to your computer. Now go back to where you were on The Ledge.

There are two boxed sections, the bottom of which says 'custom avatar'. Go to the 'browse' button and click it. Locate the image you just downloaded and click on it. This will upload and change your avatar for you. When that's done, click 'save changes' down the bottom. Then you can go back to the forum proper.

THANK YOU!!! I am not ready to conquer the tweeting thing yet (too scared to try, but I will print your instructions and attempt it another time) BUT I finally changed my avatar. I am so grateful you took the time to give me the step by step.

.

thanks for this.
Out of interest- having deleted the entire blog- could it all be reinstated somehow one day in the future? Surely it's all saved somewhere, somehow? Sorry, I'm not that technically minded.

This is from the Tumblr Account Management page about account deletion:

Quote:
How do I delete my entire account?
Hopefully this is just a hypothetical. Hypothetically, you would just go to your primary blog's settings page or your account settings page and hit the "delete account" button at the bottom of the page. Be aware:
Your primary blog will be deleted. If TFA has been enabled for your account, you will be required to input the code.
Your secondary blogs that you are the only member of will be deleted, and you'll be removed from any group blogs you are a member of.
Your blog URL will be released, and can be used by anyone who's looking to create a blog.
You can create a new account using the same email address you used last time. Hey, go for it.
How do I delete or leave a secondary / group blog?
Click "Settings" under the Account menu at the top of the Dashboard, then click the name of blog you'd like to delete or leave on the right side of the page (or if you're in the mobile app, swipe left on the blog name).
If you’re the only member of the blog, you’ll see a “Delete blog” button at the bottom of the screen. Click this and the blog will be deleted from Tumblr and its URL will be released for anyone to use.
If there’s at least one remaining member of the blog, you’ll see a “Leave blog” button at the bottom of the screen. Click this and you will be removed from the blog. If you were the only blog Admin, another member will be automatically promoted to Admin. Learn more about administering group blogs here.
It looks like if the blog is truly deleted, the URL is released for anyone to use... So it's not like facebook where you can potentially reactivate it again later. However if he saved his posts somewhere else he could potentially post them again.

Yes- more than likely the blog has simply been deactivated. Should Richard chose to do so at some point in the future, the blog could be reactivated and all of the material would be recovered.

I have a feeling he's done, though. I walked away from social media (facebook, etc) a few years ago myself and haven't looked back. Social media can be a negative and highly stressful experience. I can certainly empathize with why Richard has bowed out.

But won't all the versions of it be cached? You can't really make anything truly disappear on the Internet,....

It seems like I recall there being some service on the web where you can "go back in time" and look at what was on any website on a date of your choosing. Sound familiar to anyone? If so, a person could use that to grab all the text and repost elsewhere (if copyright issues and Richard's wishes allow).

Yes, that's what I was thinking- nothing ever truly ceases to exist on the internet...its always out there, somewhere, forever.

Richard and Stacy, for whatever reasons you decided to stop the Tumblr blog, just know that I respect your decision, will miss you immensely, and truly hope you are healthy and happy. Take care, lovethemac1

Thank you for this! If we use these definitions, Lindsey would often appear to be talking about arranging when he credits himself for creating the band's sound.

This whole situation is so strange. The blog goes from having all these grand plans to move forward with a variety of big things, to disappearing without any explanation and only the vaguest of hints from other sources as to what happened. I hope we get the real story someday. I really enjoyed the anecdotes and photos and hope that all is well with Richard.

it's very weird that he somehow is unable to write a brief message about it.

Yes, once you put something on the web it is always there....web.archive.org can search any site at any point in time while the site was active. Copyright doesn't apply to web.archive.org as it is just pulling what Richard already put out there.

The web is forever.
The web is forever.
The web is forever.

Here is richard's site on March 29, 2015

Enjoy. By scrolling back in time thru the several days it was snap shot you get most of his blog.
