Album #4, also my fourth favorite Lindsey album. I went with Right Place to Fade (probably one of my top three LB solo songs), Gift of Screws, and Wait for You. I also like Bel Air Rain. What are your top three?

i can't stand Did You Miss Me, and TPT chorus makes me want to jam something through my ears... although guitarwork on that song is sublime.

Elle, you're probably the perfect person to ask this- the songs that were originally intended for the first incarnation of GOS that either wound up on the studio release, or UTS or SWS, do you know if they were re-recorded or if he went with the original recordings? I ask because I know some were worked on as early as 1995, but then weren't actually released for years. I can't quite tell when listening. I would figure things such as She Smiled Sweetly would be recorded more recently since he didn't sound the same in 2011 as he did in 1995, but can't tell on all of them.

I put Did You Miss Me among my three. My musical tastes are shallow, what can I say.

Bel Air Rain gift of Screws and Right Place to Fade. All right in a row, what a 10 minute span of audio bliss. Lindsey followed up his worst album, UTS with his best!

Next to impossible for me, this one. Ended up going off instinct and plumped for 'Love Runs Deeper', 'Right Place to Fade' and 'Treason'.
'Underground', 'Wait for You' and 'Bel Air Rain' are also A+ for me, and I ADORE the verses, especially lyrically, in both 'Did You Miss Me' and 'Great Day'.

Love Runs Deeper - What a stomper! I love this song...it's one of those turn-it-up-in-your-car type of songs.
Right Place to Fade - "I'm a little lost, let me find my way, I'm a little dead, let me live...been livin' in the past, let me rise today....led a selfish life, help me give...." The lyrics hit me in the gut, even if they sound like "twist of fate". ![]() Treason - Lindsey has really brought a spiritual-ness to his music and lyrics lately. VERY interesting to me. This song really does sound like an old church hymn or something. It's very uplifting and powerful. Just went back to read the entries and Nicole...you and I have the same songs picked out. Nice!! We have great taste, obviously. ![]()

I voted for GOS, Bel Air Rain and Great Day which I like but actually intended my 3rd to be Wait For You.
This album is second only to Out of the Cradle as his best solo work |

Peacekeeper is completely reworked, and i like faster original recording much better, but that one was not a part of that 2001 CD-R LB supposedly gave to WBs.

Interestingly (to me), Stevie was also apparently around during those sessions per Neale Heywood's 2000 Q&A:
Hi Neale, My e-mail address reflects my light side, and I love it, too, thanks! In regards to the subject of LB's record becoming a Fleetwood Mac record...is SN on the record at all? I read that all the other Mac's worked on the record (GOS's) at some point, but never heard anything about SN. And, by the way, have you heard any of SN's new record? Thanks for the time you're taking, this is cool! (Desiree, Virginia, USA) Hi Desiree, how are you? You know I thought that Stevie had done some harmony stuff on the record, I saw her a few times during the recordings so I think she is on there but I could be wrong. I've not heard any of her new record, I live in Colorado now so i'm not in the neighborhood anymore. All the best Ms. Dreamer.

It was tough to chose just 3 favorites from GOS, this was just such a strong album as a whole work.
Great Day: Lindsey almost never writes songs in a narrative, linear, story telling fashion. I love that about this one. Such a neat pace setting song for an album opener. Bel Air Rain: What is there to say about this song? Possibly the finest song of Lindsey's entire career. It showcases his experimental sounds, dynamic finger picking, and superb songwriting together in one stunning package. Love Runs Deeper: I love the charging pace of this one. It's such a foot tapper. I've assumed this one is about Fleetwood Mac, or possibly his relationship with Stevie. Either way, that's another reason I'm partial to it.

About re-working some of the songs, this is pretty much everything, but even still, I'm probably missing some things.
Murrow Turning Over in His Grave: no changes Miranda: backing vocals from Stevie, heavier drums, vocals more layered/up front in the mix Red Rover: no changes Peacekeeper: completely remixed/Stevie backing vocals Come: no changes, except for cutting out that little drum fill Mick does at the VERY end of the GOS version Steal Your Heart Away: Stevie backing vocals, some vocals more in the background in the ending part of the song..."alone we suffer" being an example, bongos in the intro seem more prominent in the original version Bleed to Love Her: slightly earlier fade out for SYW, Stevie backing vocals Say Goodbye: seems more heavily produced, vocals more layered, Stevie backing vocals To Try for the Sun: the ending coda--->"mirror mirror in the sky, would you look what's happening here below, no one knows where to go, would you give us a sign where to go," has been cut out, vocals are more pronounced and upfront in the mix, guitar seems cleaned up a bit, maybe redone Down on Rodeo: no changes Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind: no changes Wait for You: no changes Twist of Fate: title changed to "The Right Place to Fade" even though he's clearly singing the former title, why not re-record that line??? more percussion in the verses in the original version, last chorus extended---one more line of "waiting for the light that might light our way", also the whoo hoo hoo's, there's one more round of those in the original, the "ba ba ba ba baa's are extended a bit and there is more pronounced guitar over that part in the original Gift of Screws: the line, "that's right, yeah"...the "yeah" is more monotone rather than more exciting in the original version. the ending drum solo is slightly extended on the official release She Smiled Sweetly: completely reworked Songs not yet officially released: Blue Turns to Grey, Deep Dense, My Little Demon (studio version), Given Thing, Steve's Riff (Wear You Down), The Singer Not the Song, Gotta Get Away Love Minus Zero/No Limit: anyone know if this was recorded during the SYW sessions, or was this from the original GOS sessions? I Am Waiting: believe this was recorded during the SYW sessions and saved for UTS |
