Yes, she did. Tango in the Night was a sensation in Europe. Hence, Rooms on Fire actually got noticed and she sold some solo records and was able to tour. In the 1980s it was her lowest charting first single from her four solo albums in the United States. Her best work barely got noticed over there. Didn't chart very high at all but Rooms did very well.

???? Let's just say her singles and albums have not been nearly as popular as they have in the U.S. And her solo tours are not breaking any records in the U.S.

How could they be as popular? She does zilch in the way of promotion. And your assertion that her 'best work' has gone under-appreciated in Europe is totally subjective. As far as I'm concerned, Rooms On Fir is her best work.

But there are far less popular artists touring here. I guess she just doesn't want to come here and play small venues? Such a shame.

Anyway, thanks for clearing my question up. ^^ If they added just 1 Stevie song to the Fleetwood Mac concert I'd be soooo happy... But that's probably not going to happen. I don't know what it is, but I find her music infinitely better, even album tracks like Cheaper Than Free.

I think Stevie would love to tour Europe, but her solo band is not a permanent "band." They are chiefly sessions musicians that have numerous other projects going on and Stevie tries to borrow them for a few months to support her solo albums. Even this last solo album was made up with Nashville musicians. They are not "her band," a group she can pull out and take with her on the road. It's totally different than touring with Fleetwood Mac, a dedicated "band" that is on the album and on tour. Even Stevie's solo band musicial director (Waddy Wachtel) has a half dozen other projects going on, and cannot be available for a year's tour. I'd have to look it up, but her first solo album, the Bella Donna/White Winged Dove toured something like 2 months--her band was made actually up of members of other prominent bands members, like Benmont Tench (Heartbreakers/Tom Petty's keyboardist, etc). I just don't think Stevie has a dedicated "band" to take with her for a world wide tour. Stevie knows she has major fans in Europe. I believe the Trouble In Shangri-la outting had plans to hit Europe. She mentioned it on some of the promo outtings- I think on The Tonight Show, etc. Everything seemed to be scrapped after the 9/11 happening in NYC. She didn't even want to continue with the tour dates she had listed. I remember Stevie saying she wanted to just go home. Her mother, Barbara, and Don Henley pushed her onward.

Although she doesn't use all the same musicians for recordings vs. touring, her touring band has been very stable for several years now, and they are certainly capable of doing a world tour. In fact, I bet they would love to.

Exactly. Back in the day I did a FM/SN fan club (in Holland from '77 until '92) and the record company told me she was going to come over to promote BD and she cancelled, no reason given. The same happened with WH and RAL.
ITA on TOSOTM's success, she promoted it properly and it was a hit which resulted in a tour. She could have done that with all of her solo albums but for some reason she doesn't and forgets about her European fan base. It's a shame really.

That is very true. I believe that Bella Donna would've been HUGE over here and Stand Back had the potential to be a massive hit but didn't get played and there was NO promotion.

It's a big opportunity missed as record sales in the UK have always been massive compared to other countries. As a country and taking population into account, we are the biggest buyers of music on average. FACT. We also have great venues and have produced many of the most successful artists of all time including The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and loads more!

Stevie just chose to stay safe with her most loyal audience. Those people being from the US.

There's also evidence that she could've been big over here as The Other Side of the Mirror went to #3 and sold over 200,000 copies and let's be honest, it's not as good as albums such as The Wild Heart and Bella Donna. The success of Tango in the Night helped a great deal but Rooms on Fire was a great song and we as a country saw that. And we also saw her on Top of the Pops which was an almost 100% guarantee that your single would reach the top 40.

I bet Stevie kicks herself when she realises what success she could've had here. Should've, would've, could've!

As an Italian fan, I have to say that I see artists touring in my country that have even less fan base than Stevie.
This summer for example there were a few dates of Robert Plant solo tour and here his solo effort isn't even known to exist. He played small venues with people politely waiting for his Led Zeppelin material to pop up, a friend of mine that is a huge Led Zeppelin fan wanted to go, but didn't anyway since it was so unappealing.

Here no one knows Stevie, only the official radio station of Virgin records plays "Edge of seventeen" or "Stop draggin' my heart around" once in a while because she's considered niche market.
Yet when my friends hear "Edge of seventeen" or "Stop draggin' my heart around" they recognize it and appreciate it since they've been sanctioned by Jack Black movie "School of rock".
I think Stevie only truly ever relied on Fleetwood Mac as it's a more safe ground, and never seriously considered promoting her albums outside the US, losing a very good career opportunity.

Yeah, I always find it funny when the band play Stand Back in the UK. Lots of casual fans are utterly perplexed. I suspect its an entirely different reception to that it gets across the pond.

It is hard to believe that Edge of Seventeen, Stand Back and Leather and Lace didn't even chart in the Top 100 over there. Those songs are true hits. Her biggest hit Rooms on Fire only hit 16.

Also, wonder if drugs had something to do with her not touring over there. She only managed to get over there after she dropped the cocaine habit.

"Bella Donna" went top 20 (#11 I believe) with absolutely no promotion. "Stop Draggin" got a bit of airplay and as a result, it was the only single that charted within the top #100.

You have to remember that we didn't have a hundred TV channels in the early - mid 80's. Satellite and Cable TV only started gaining momentum from the mid 80's and into the early 90's. We didn't get cable in our house until 1994.

We had 3 channels until 1982. So really, if you wanted to promote your album, you had to come to the UK and do the TV chat shows, radio interviews and perform on Top of the Pops and TOUR. Stevie didn't do any of those things until 1989 when OSOTM came out. There was no TV, radio interviews, TV performances from anything from Stevie solo until '89, and the album was a big hit.

Incidentally, The Wild Heart was certified silver and Rock A Little certified Gold, despite absolutely ZILCH promotion.

When I spoke to people recently about the release of 24KG, even people who would class themselves as Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks fans, they didn't know it was happening despite knowing that Christine was back with the band (that's been BIG news over here!). Press for the Fleetwood Mac tour is massive at the moment.

The turnout for Stevie's hard rock calling festival performance in London in 2011 was fantastic. The place wasn't all that busy until Stevie's slot, and suddenly packed out. The album signing the following day was really busy as well. Stevie DOES have a large fanbase in the UK and Europe. She'd easily sell out someone like Manchester Apollo or the Royal Albert Hall. I can't see her packing out the O2, but the mid-sized venues she would absolutely pack out!

Don't go to a Fleetwood Mac concert if you don't want to hear Fleetwood Mac songs. There are no Stevie solo songs in the current Fleetwood Mac setlist.

My signature says it all...

Iīm Czech, Iīm huge fan of Stevie. Thatīs enough . I have seen Fleetwood Mac in 2009 and 2013, hopefully next year again... probably in Cologne. Itīs great to have Christine back. I hope they will do some new album, all together.

But anyway, I wish I could see Stevieīs solo live concert... itīs another songs, completely another show... I donīt think she will ever come to Europer for a solo tour anymore... but actually... Iīve never thought that Christine will be back... so.. who knows

well, then... anyway I will have to visit USA just to visit... so maybe I could connect it with Stevieīs concert... but is there possibility tu buy a ticket through the internet here? hopefully yes

They could let stay Stand Back in the setlist for thist tour... at least this Stevieīs song, which is my very favourite...
