Default Starshine

I'm very curious to see how this song comes out. The single will be out next week (September 16)

Original Demo of Starshine

Starshine: Outtakes and Demos (Complete) April 1980

Original Lyrics
Starshine
Woah, you used to be silver
Love line, love affair
Well, you used to make me shiver
He said, "Woah, this is the price that we finally pay"
I said, "I don't believe you
I need you, I need you to stay"
She said, "Baby, we've been together for such a long time"
And I said, ooh, I said
"Playing with fire was wrong"

You used to be silver
Love line, love affair
You used to make me shiver
Woah, this is the price that I finally pay
I said, "Well, I don't believe you
Well, I need you, I need you to stay"
She said, "But we've been together for..."
Well, I said, "Playing with fire was
Playing with fire was..."

This is the price that we finally....

Starshine
Well, you used to be silver
Ooh, now, you used to be silver
Love line, love affair
Well, you used to make me shiver
He said, "Baby, this is the price that we finally pay"
I said, "I don't believe you
And I need you, and I need you to stay"
She said, "But we've been together for, for so long"
Well, I said, well, I said
"Playing with fire was wrong"

You used to be silver
Long, long, run away on down
You used to make me shiver
Run away, run away
Won't you run away from me, baby
Well, I told you what to do with your life
But you could not save me
I told you what to do with your life
But you did not save me
Starshine...

I really like the demo but wish it was less repetitive lyrically. I'm hoping she changed up the second verse in some way. Can't wait to hear it!

This is one of the songs I am most excited to hear, despite the fact I'd never listened to the demo before Dave posted the clip of the new version. It's just such a spunky foot tapper- a real Linda Ronstadt-style country rocker. I just loved the sound of Stevie's voice on the clip, and can't wait to hear how she tackles the rest of the song- the demo has some very passionate vocals!

A lot of her lyrics are repetitive. Same verse/chorus over and over.

I like the music/feel of Starshine, but the lyrics are very dicey, with very little content to grab on to. I'm not a fan of the "He said, She said, I said." For me that weakens the narrative.

Based on the other snippets we've heard, my guess is that the updated "Starshine" will sound pretty much identical to the outtake you posted.

Everything we've heard so far has sounded very faithful to the versions we've known for so long...which is maybe why I've been finding myself not as excited for this release as I should be.

Have no desire to hear this song especially if she didn't change the lyrics.

Single release dates are available on Amazon. Starshine is slated to become available for download on 9/16, and 24 Karat Gold (the song) on 9/23.

"Starshine" is the vault song that *really* surprised me was chosen. I always thought of the song as more of a studio jam, a rough outline of a partially done song Stevie wanted to run through, than a completed piece. Based on Dave's clip in July, I'm expecting that it was recorded basically the same as what we have heard from the BD sessions. And "Starshine" opens the record & will be the third promo single I really hope they surprise me with the official recording, but I'm keeping my expectations low for this song.

Most of the "takes" and "jam sessions" for "Starshine" sound the same...complete with the limited and repetitive lyrics...

HOWEVER, on Vocal Take # 4, the song starts out slow and then builds to a climax, with the drums coming in halfway through the song. On this version, Stevie does quite a bit of "on the spot" add libbing...with GREAT results, in my opinion. Far less repetitive than the other vocal takes.

I hope and pray that this "take" was one of the versions they went back and studied, so hopefully they used some ideas from it.

"Don't call me a woman and treat me like a child...do your teaching somewhere else and leave me on my own, awhile..."

"Run away, run away, why don't you run away, darlin'...told you what to do with your life, but you did not listen..."

"Run away now, down down down baby...you asked me what to do with your life, but you could not save me..."

"Take it on your love line...love line...love line, lover's stare...oh star shine, star light in the air..."

Sorcerer999, you weren't joking. I was reading the lyrics for Starshine.

"He said..."
"I said..."
"She said..."

Starshine tomorrow at midnight! I have the morning off from classes. This song is probably going to get about 20 plays from me before I go to bed, lol.
